London based sound designer and therapist Cazuist, aka Greg Joiner, is passionate about sound and its creative use to convey meaning. He's particularly interested in how it affects us psychologically, and ultimately how it can benefit us therapeutically.

He runs a project called 'Journeys Within' with the aim to take the listener on journeys through music within a narrative framework.

"With this mix I wanted to create something that reflected the range and fluctuation of feelings from my own personal psychedelic healing experiences; tribal, at times ominous, trippy, meditative, twisted and blissful. Always evolving through these states of mind to come out the other side transformed with gratitude and love."

DifferentSound invites Operator (Southsea)

The DifferentSound Podcast #288 welcomes Operator! Operator is the alias of UK Techno artist Rich Jones, who has been DJing since the late 90s and producing since the early 00ʼs. After signing multiple successful 12” E.Pʼs to Soma, 8 Sided Dice and appearing on Richie Hawtinʼs Minus, Rich moved away from the trendy big room sound of the time and created Operator in 2012, to let his creative hair down and experiment with a wider sonic palette. This led to well received vinyl E.Pʼs on Audio Assault and Singular initially, and more recently releases on Mindtrip, Symbolism and a 12” LP on Mord. Rich also runs Gnosis Records, which he reserves for his more quirky and weird creations, occasionally veering into house flavours. Being from the UK, where in the early 00ʼs house and techno were often happy bed fellows, this influence is clear in his heavily groovy, swung style. Although always keeping abreast of current trends, Rich mostly focuses on a timeless ‘keep it different, keep it groovyʼ approach, with a penchant for heavy drums, subtle details in the sequence and lots of analog texture.  Noticeable gigs for Rich have included Tresor, Fold, Corsica Studios and Forsage, but for various reasons in the interest of health Rich has hung up his headphones for the foreseeable future. Rich continues to work tirelessly in the studio, though, and has many forthcoming projects in the works, including an E.P on the venerable Ilian Tape, a second release on Ben Simʼs Symbolism and a 12” on Pleistocene Future along with various plans for Gnosis.

The Essential Mix is a weekly radio show on BBC Radio 1 currently broadcast between 0:00 - 2:00 AM UK time on Saturday morning. Originally broadcast on 30 October 1993, the Essential Mix features contemporary DJs and music producers of electronic dance music. The show has been presented since its inception by Pete Tong and features an uninterrupted two-hour mix from a different artist each week, overlaid with occasional continuity announcements delivered by Tong. With a broadcast run in excess of 25 years, the Essential Mix is one of the longest-running programmes in the current BBC Radio 1 schedule, and is one of very few Radio 1 shows which is not broadcast live.
