Let's meet our dj for episode 454, Jake Hypastep:
I was introduced to jungle music at a very young age, one of the first sets I listened to was on a cassette tape, A mix by Randall live at the Edge 93'.

When I was 13 I  got my first turntables and my first record was Krust-Kloaking Devices.

My first gig was in 2017 in Wellingborough, for a charity event.
I’ve since played in Bedford, Southend, Distant Planet, and the Jungle List in London. Lastly, I’ve done a cassette tape released on Modern Urban Jazz.

I don’t let obstacles like my eyesight get in the way, being blind is not the main thing about me, it’s all about the skills I can do and my love for the sound of jungle music.

CLUB AMEN NOVAFM (27.05.2023)  Drum and Bass Vibes.

This mix is my first serious effort on 3 decks, and great care was put into every step of the recording process to make it special.  

The idea was to take full advantage of the extra turntable, and do some extra technical stuff that wouldn’t have been possible otherwise.  The result is a complex mix - many layers, controlled chaos.  As usual, its strictly underground vibes.  Full of double drops, turntablism, and tunes that are a bit off the beaten path.  All original plates, all vinyl.

CB₁ first stood behind tables in 1994. Born in Minnesota, but raised in North Carolina, CB₁ cut his teeth as a small town junglist in the underground Carolina dance scene during the mid to late 90’s. After a short hiatus from the scene, he spent over a decade in Washington, DC where he became a member of the Tribalistix Crew. CB₁ now resides in the greater Denver Metro area and is a resident DJ for Drum and Bass Proper, UKG Proper, and Altitude Sickness. While still firmly rooted in Jungle, CB₁ has been known to spin all forms of bass heavy broken beats from dark rollers, ragga jungle to techstep/neurofunk, intelligent jazzy DnB, UKG, and liquid.
