Refune Records continues with its massive releases of 2010! Miami WMC has finished and it's finally time for the release of Miike Snow - Silvia (Sebastian Ingrosso &amp; Dirty South Remix)!

 Behind Miike Snow stands the producer team Bloodshy &amp; Avant (who previously produced tracks for Madonna, Britney Spears and Kylie Minogue to name a few) and the singer Andrew Wyatt. The band formed in 2007 and released the self entitled album Miike Snow in 2009 and since then its been a clear success with the band touring massively all over the world. 

Fantastic support by the international DJ-community such as Tiësto, David Guetta, Axwell, Pete Tong Sebastian Ingrosso, Armin Van Buuren, Steve Angello, Dirty South etc. and also played and featured in the radio shows of Pete Tong, Tiësto and many more.

With its pumping bassline, beautiful melodies and big break the remix is a true anthem of the winter and spring 2010!

In recent months, the name of UK composer and cellist, Philip Sheppard, has been very much in the media: a result of him having being commissioned to arrange and orchestrate all the national anthems for the London 2012 Olympics.He's now recorded them all (205 in total!) with the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
However, Sheppard has also found time to complete a 30-minute commissioned dance score for Barcelona-based choreographer, Thomas Noone. It's premiered in Mulhouse by Le Ballet de l'Opéra national du Rhin on 22 January 2012, later transferring to Colmar and Strasbourg (9 performances in total).
Sheppard has an impressive track record in writing for dance and theatre, having worked with Akram Khan, Sylvie Guillem and Juliette Binoche in recent years. In January 2012 he joins Khan and Guillem for performances of his 2006 score to 'Sacred Monsters', in the Théâtre des Champs Elysées, Paris.

Sasha's label, Last Night On Earth continues to maintain it's forward thinking approach to releasing a diverse range of quality electronic music.

Finally seeing the light of day is Sasha's take on Hot Chip’s “Flutes".  Having been a firm favourite and closing track of many of his recent sets, he twists it in to his classic melodic vibe that only he does so well, taking the original into a new dimension for the clubs and festivals.

Beautiful synth work builds and breaks throughout the track, with tight drum programming keeping the track flowing and taking you on a melodic journey, as only Sasha can do.

Something a little different from me this week. Whilst it's not aimed at the dancefloor I'm really proud of this mix. Lemon Jelly meets New Order is probably the best description I've heard. It's strictly promo only for the moment but will see a proper release at some point next year. Public Service Broadcasting are a London-based duo whose main ingredients are: 1) J. Willgoose, Esq. on guitars, banjos, other stringed instruments, samplings, electronic things; 2) Wrigglesworth on drums, pianos and other electronic things.

Taking samples from old public information films, archive footage and propaganda material, and mould them into 21st century songs.

Everest is based on the 1953 film 'The Conquest of Everest', which told the story of Hillary & Tensing successful ascent of the tallest mountain in the world, and which was directed by expedition member George Lowe.

The band have been getting major props from both 6 Music and XFM (amongst many others) and are preparing a major label album release for next year.

Unashamedly “sissy” and explicitly queer, The Ballet marry the DIY ethos of the Hidden Cameras with the wry poeticism of The Magnetic Fields and the romantic pop of Jens Lekman, to create literate infectious pop gems. On "Difficult Situations" they subtly balance gay melancholy with self-deprecating humor and stubborn utopianism.
 
Formed in 2005 by Greg Goldberg and Craig Willse, with Marina Miranda completing the trio, the Ballet have released two previous albums Mattachine! and Bear Life. They have been joined by a few other musicians along the way including Ginger Brooks Takahashi and Michael O'Neill, who left in 2007 to join JD Sampson in MEN as well as guest appearances on previous albums from the likes of Linton from The Aislers Set and Ramesh from Voxtrot.
 
Avoiding autobiographical or confessional modes, songwriter Greg Goldberg nonetheless mines his own psychological constitution and intellectual interests to craft songs whose overt musical prettiness is often contrasted by a dark and complex subtext. In addition to citing Stephin Merritt as an influence, Goldberg draws from an array of pop artists and periods, from 60’s bubblegum to 80’s synthpop and 90’s indiepop, fusing these in sophisticated and novel ways which rewards repeat listening.
