For the next in our Off The Record mix series we invited DJ, radio host and music consultant Sam Don or known to his close friends and family, Sam Donnison. Sam is a DJ's DJ, having proved himself and the world over as a man of many styles, tempo and moods. Having shared the airwaves with highly regarded talent like Danilo Plessow aka MCDE and constructed mind soothing mixes for podcasts like Mr Bongo its quite hard to pin point what direction Sam will go in a set. This also shows the sign of a true digger and if Off The Record knows anything its deep diggers. This digging helped Sam curate one of the most captivating compilation series' to come out this year in our opinion; "For The Love Of You", a journey through Lover's Rock across two brilliant volumes on the ever amazing Athens Of The North. For this mix Sam has tapped into a deep dig of fun yet raw house numbers, stemming with vocals, hypnotic acid, heavenly kicks and cunning blends throughout. We had a quick sit down with Sam about the mix and what he has been up to lately. This is Off The Record 36: Sam Don!

Creativity and personality are the main caracteristics of this brazilian duo formed by Marcelo Abreu and Diogo Vaille. After a long history in brazilian electronic music scene, these two guys got together and already put their first tracks made as Bruce Leroys project on one of the most vital deep-house labels at the moment, the OFF Recordings. Now, they are already being charted and supported by artists like Joyce Muniz, Doctor Dru, Tiger Stripes, Jay Lumen and many others, and their unique fusion of Deep, Disco, Funk, Techno, Hip-Hop, and Garage keeps making more and more fans all over the world.

"Without trying to flatter SlothBoogie, but flattering them, we really enjoyed Philippa’s release. It’s one of the best EPs of the year so far. The Tiptoes’ track fits perfectly alongside the classic “The Curse”. SlothBoogie consistently delivers music of excellent quality across different dimensions.

In this set, we’ve mixed in previously released tracks from our label AUREUM and two unreleased tracks. “Acaju” and “Maravilha Marginal” are the next two EPs from our label, and we have a lot of belief in these tracks. We included the Art of Tones version for our first release on the Aureum label. Also featured in this mixtape is our collaboration with our favourite band, Azymuth, and the remix by Felipe Gordon for our partnership with Bernardo Campo.

His vinyl mix for Phonica ranges from recent 2000 black dub vibes to favourite deep house cuts by Christopher Rau or Laurence Guy, paving the road with all sorts of tunes from sweet and dreamy to edgy and eclectic.

1/ Beverly Glenn-Copeland - Colors Of Anyhow - GRT Canada 1970 
This I already know that you like :) As I dug it up for you when we spent time together at Superfly in Paris some weeks ago! Such a beautiful LP. Was making sense to start the selection with it.

2/ France Gall - Musique - Atlantic France 1977
Most french people know this track, but as you're german.. there's a chance you've never heard of it! Let's see.. Amazing french disco.. A hit back in the days, overlooked by 'boring diggers' as "too mainstream" maybe, but great music - that's all we care about! I had to put something from my homeland in this selection :)

3/ Rosana - Muito Independente - Odeon Brazil 1978
As we were talking about Brazilian music the other day when I almost made you miss your flight to Leeds! I'm sure you gonna love this little 7inch! Love Rosana's voice!!

CC’s career has given her the perfect creative outlets to express her first love – be it DJing around the globe, holding down a regular radio show, or curating her acclaimed First Light compilations.

On her road from radio host to warm-up DJ to headliner, CC has never once compromised on her sound. Slow, pumping, romantic, playful, uplifting – these are the feels that people around the world have experienced listening to CC in action. Ultimately it’s about connecting with other music lovers on a physical and emotional level: less chin-stroking, more dancing!

Perhaps that’s the real fundamental of CC’s path as an artist – the space she creates for others. It’s reflected in the reminder she often gives after a gig: that the DJ just plays the music, and is no more or less important than the security guard, the bartender or the cleaner. It’s a humility that translates on a global scale – and you’re included too.

In July 2023, CC:DISCO! released her debut EP on Erol Alkan’s independent imprint Phantasy Sound. Both ‘Chez Moi’ (featuring Confidence Man) and ‘Out Of Your Mind’ were instant hits, garnering impressive international streaming figures and receiving widespread DJ and radio support. The EP was played in festival sets by Shanti Celeste, Job Jobse, Palms Trax, Bradley Zero and others. Heard on Beats In Space (US), Triple J(Australia) and the BBC (UK) in shows from Sally C, Moxie and Sarah Storey, the EP was a summer hit in Europe and has also taken CC on a sold-out tour of her beloved Australia.
