Episode #4 - Dr. Geoffrey Habron

In this episode I talk to Kevin Kao, professor of art, and ceramic artist. Professor Kao and I dive into the story of what brought him to ceramics and to teaching. We spend time building out the aspects of creativity that led him to orient his life around it, grounding them in major moments of vocational realization. I think Professor Kao’s experiences following the path that excited him, without clarity or certainty of where it would lead him, offer a meaningful lesson and point of encouragement to listeners as they build out their sense of calling.  I thoroughly enjoyed this conversation and thank Professor Kao for his time and his thoughtfulness.

In this episode I talk to Dr. Judith Williams, cultural anthropologist and Assistant professor of Anthropology. Dr. Williams and I walk through the various places her sense of calling has taken her, paying attention to the ways food has informed and connected her interest in the study of people and racial power systems. Discussing her origins as a successful chef and caterer, we explore connections between the work she did then with what excites her now. I thoroughly enjoyed this conversation, and thank Dr. Williams for her joy and thoughtfulness.

Episode #6 - Dr. Judith Williams

In this episode I talk to Bruce Adams, organic compost and farm manager at Furman University. Bruce and I discuss the responsibilities of these roles and of his position as a mentor for student employees at the Furman Farm. Bruce is a 4th generation farmer. We spend some time discussing the lessons he learned growing up on a farm, highlighting the major differences between the food system then and now. It was a pleasure sitting down and talking with Bruce, and I thank him for his time.
