To celebrate Duro’s fourth anniversary, the popular Mexican label serves up a superb various artist EP, with three more volumes to follow.

In the four years since Duro launched, the label has been at the forefront of a refreshing new sound that mixes up house, techno, indie and disco. It has won plaudits from respected DJs such as Andrew Weatherall, Marvin & Guy, Perel and Jennifer Cardini, who clearly admire the dance floor weaponry the label deals in, and this new project continues that theme.

Opener Kubebe hails from France and is part of the Volcan La Péte band. His offering, ‘Lagomar’ is a loose disco groove underpinned by a bassline straight out of eighties Chicago. Lithuania’s Roe Deers is next, coming off the back of killer releases on Sinchi Collective, Tom Tom Disco and Throne Of Blood. ‘Florida’ has tropical percussion and synths that remind of the US state, but with stiff synth stabs, retro drum fills and a fun sax line all making it extra colourful. Wolfstream is one of Russia’s most vital artists right now thanks to music on Rotten City Files and Mange Moi. His terrific tumbling drums and congas make ‘Ritual Of Nothing’ a chunky tribal beat run through with vocal sounds that build the pressure and will flip out the floor.

Vienna and Istanbul duo Hanzo & Yaman are founders of Belly Dance Services and they offer ‘Supergeil’ with busted kick drums, flailing percussive sounds and cosmic chords that make for some superbly dark disco. Fabio Me Llaman Soltero is a talent from the rich Guatemala scene who has made a mark on Disque Discos and Tráfico Music. Here he cooks up some brain frying acid, stark drum work and rigid grooves that demand you dance while a popping bassline adds a retro electro feel.

This is a fantastic five track offering that marks this worthy milestone in fine fashion.

Destination Mexico via Argentina, Lithuania, France, Columbia… we return with another international groove showcase on our forever on-point V/A collection.

Now three editions deep, the eclectic wide-armed vibe is fast becoming a ‘Muy Duro’ signature as each of the five tracks – courtesy of new and old friends – takes us deep into different corners of the dancefloor.

Calypso co-founder Thomass Jackson and good friend Cornelius Doctor light the fire with 'Alcachofas'. The title translates to artichokes but the music translates to something much tastier. Imagine Blancmange produced by Black Strobe and you’re at the right banquet table. Elsewhere Lithuanian Roe Deer returns to the ‘Muy Duro’ series for a second time with the stalking, switchy, stripped back naked hip-wriggler ‘June’, while Mexicans Concret & Iñigo Vontier roll out a deliciously paranoid tech piece that can hunch backs at 20 paces and Martin Noise and Marzian get majestic with the super-creeper ‘Azucar Umbanda’… What begins as a dark creeper suddenly flips into a tribal monster when you least expect it.

Last but not least in this cosmic endurance race is Colombian Kabinett. Brand new to Duro, brand new to releases, this is his debut. And the second those human rhythmic elements and synth blasts hit you, you’ll understand why he’s been given the honour of closing this epic EP.

C.ease is a one-man sonic venture out of Stockholm via Melbourne emerging as progressive and semi-electronic sounds, shaped under the influences of 80’s new wave and present-day electronic.

Naive emotions and split feelings are turned into daydream-like melodies, taking the seemingly conventional and submerge it with gloom and bloom. The sound is given momentum by bass and beats to songs that are simple but intricate, dark but promising.

The first EP came out in 2013 with collected recordings from earlier sessions, receiving spread radio play. The latest release, ‘Domingo / Lunes’, is taking the sound and pushing it further, into less chartered waters.
