The furthest back we travel is to 1929, with Paul Gibbons at the new electric microphone, Ford Leary from 1937, and the much more familiar Everlys from 1957, at the true start of their career. Celia Lipton Farris, DStJ (25 December 1923 – 11 March 2011) was a British actress, singer and philanthropist

Celia May Lipton was born to Sydney Lipton, a violinist and bandleader, who starred in Let's Make a Night of It, and May Johnston Parker, on 25 December 1923 in Edinburgh, Scotland.

She started her career as a singer in England and acted in movies.[5] In 1952, she moved to New York City. She married Victor Farris, the inventor of the paper milk carton, in 1956.They moved into a house in Palm Beach, Florida, formerly owned by the Vanderbilt family. When he died in 1985, he left her US$100 million.

She was a donor and fundraiser for the Salvation Army, the American Heart Association, the National Trust for Scotland, the Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital, the American Red Cross, The Prince’s Trust, the Duke of Edinburgh Trust, the American Ballet Theatre and the Norton Museum of Art. She also supported AIDS research. She was a Dame of Grace of the Venerable Order of Saint John.

Dorothy Carless was born in 1921. Her sisters were Pearl Carr, born 1923 , who had a popular singing partnership in the U.K with Teddy Johnson, and Carole Carr, 1928 - 1997, who also sang with bands such as Geraldo, as did Dorothy. Through the late 1930s , the 1940s and into the 1950s she continued singing with various bands. A good pianist, she got her break with Ray Noble's Orchestra in the 1930s, moving on to other bands such as Ambrose and Geraldo, making radio appearances regularly. She married violinist Eugene Pini in 1939, and between 1940 - 1944 recorded over 50 songs with Geraldo's Orchestra. She moved to the USA in 1946 with second husband Henry Hull Jr, appearing in cabaret and on TV shows. She travelled to London in 1953 to perform concerts and radio shows, and recorded various albums before returning to the USA by the 1960s, where she lived until her death on October 18, 2012 in Cambria, California.

We find out how he got started, and he'll be choosing some absolute Vintage Chart Toppers from the Mills Blue Rhythm Band, Paul Whiteman, Nat Gonella, Geraldo and George Evans, and more.  As they go through the various brass instruments in John's amazing collection, Colin gets to see and hold the Hong Kong bugle!

He’s choosing a handful of sides that have meant something to him over years and chats with Colin about his time in Hong Kong in the 70s and 80s.
