In 2004, I'll Rise (a cover of American soul singer Ben Harper's adaptation of the poet Maya Angelou's poem And Still I Rise) became one of the most popular tracks off Peyton's debut album on Hed Kandi records, and is still for many fans the Peyton classic that best characterises the essence of his gospel voice set to Kupper's quintessential House beats.

It's been two years since the world lost Colin Butts.   Before he passed I had the chance to do some work with him in the studio, when he asked me to record the vocals for a song that he had written years before called Lying In The Sun.   I've never uploaded it anywhere before, but as it's been two years since his departure to a higher place I thought I would share this version of his song which I recorded with him as a tribute to the brilliant, funny, cheeky and incredibly talented human being Colin Butts was!

This is the third SGST volume mixed by DJ Perl, but it's the first time we've had a chance to really speak with her and give the radio listeners a chance to get to know the diva behind the decks.  In this episode, Peyton gets DJ Perl (aka Brooke Perlman) to open up about where her passion for house music comes from, before moving on to the deeper discussion about what life has been like this year for so many university students who have had to try and adjust to the impersonal necessity of completing their curriculum courses online via virtual classrooms.  At a time when millions of students have been forced to modify their methods of learning, as well as their behaviour, there has been a lot of reporting in the press about the recent surges in infection rates, placing some of  the blame on college and university campuses where many students have ignored suggestions to adhere to any recommended precautionary measures.   In this episode DJ Perl talks openly about her own experience of testing positive and getting sick with the virus as a result of spending time in the company of her friends at school who were not taking precautions.  She also identifies what she feels to be the single most important thing she has taken away from her four year university experience, and speaks passionately about her work with the All Ways Up Foundation, a non-profit organisation based in LA that helps first-generation and low-income youth get to AND through college by providing scholarships, emotional and mentoring support, as well as annual leadership summits. Peyton’s voice and lyrics have become synonymous with soulful house. His trademark gospel-infused, uplifting sound borrows inspiration from his childhood as the real-life son of a preacher man in Virginia where he grew up. For the past two decades, Peyton has performed in over sixty countries and across six continents, making headline appearances at events like Sydney’s Mardi Gras and the official Beijing Olympics afterparty and also holding summer residencies in Ibiza at Blue Marlin and Space. Peyton has collaborated with some of house music’s most beloved all stars, including the late godfather of house Frankie Knuckles and the legendary Eric Kupper.

In 2022, Peyton co-founded and launched Revival Records, a label and music collective committed to creating high quality dance productions and more opportunities for artists.
