I have mixed thoughts about this song, this has taken almost 3 weeks to complete because I kept messing with the mixing to get it to all fit nicely together, I think I did alright in certain aspects, but the headphones I use to mix aren't really the best so I couldn't distinguish what needed to be fixed. This is my first map of Istanbul—from the courtyard to the ferry, from the tea garden to the Grand Bazaar. You’ll hear makam colors, microtones, and aksak grooves in 7/8 and 9/8; saz, oud, kanun, ney, kaval, zurna, darbuka, and davul telling how the city sounded to me before I turned twelve.
Each track is a scene: our block, the neighbor, Teacher Veli (stern and kind), friendship and hospitality, the green valleys, the Bosphorus, the nights, the tea garden, and the journey forward. Between seagulls and ferry horns, nu-jazz and soul blend with a hint of djent—honest, warm, handcrafted.
