This is the sound i heard in my childhood while travelling often in the Night Train between Calcutta and Madras , lying on the top bunk and hearing the beat of the train over tracks and points.

Night Train

My song Night Train To Calcutta is the sound I used to hear in my childhood  lying on the top bunk of a  three tier sleeper train compartment while travelling to Calcutta by the Night Train from Kerala.

We used to go often to visit relatives there and it was a long 38 hour journey . 
Those were the days before mobile phones and other electronic gizmos, the time was spent in talking, reading , watching the scenery and endless cups of tea .

Eventually I would find myself hypnotized by the hypnotic beat of the train as it sped over the infinite tracks of India – a sound which seared into my subconscious as it lulled the passengers to sleep . 

 The sound of the train on the tracks, the sound over joints, points, junctions, different sounds as it raced over short and long bridges, reflected from the surrounding fields , trees, dimly lit houses and  villages with  distant cities all of which reverberated in the consciousness of travel
