Lux Experience – Disco Church EP

Norway’s Lux Experience throws the chapel doors wide open for the Hot Digits congregation to enter and marvel at the miracle of his Disco Church EP. 

Launching this ecumenical four tracker is the Heatwave-flavoured ‘My Disco Church’ - a groovy, four-to-the floor box cutter of a tune that grabs you by the boogie bone and doesn’t let go until you succumb to its charms. A solid, punchy 121bpm beat combines with slappy disco bass, furious bongo soaring harmonies announcing we are here to get on down. And that’s what we’re definitely here for. 

Track 2 is the pleasure inducing, brass tickling and tambourine tappin’ party starter – the simply titled ‘Muuvin’. Coming in at a deceptive 121bpm, Muuvin’ is one of those tracks that has you air drumming along to the beat whilst harmonising with the familiar vocals. A magnificent experiment in Brooklyn inspired funk, tight rhythms and dynamic soul. 

Track number 3 is the happy, clappy and seriously sexy ‘It Happens’. This one has a bassline so filthy you want to wipe it (and yourself down) with an antibacterial cloth. All shoulders and attitude, ‘It Happens’ is an up-tempo dance floor beast. It rolls, it bites and it growls. It bares its teeth to reveal a saxophone smile, leaving you trapped inside a Prince and Bootsie Collins combined fever dream from which you might never wake up. Outstandingly good from Mr Lux. 

Finally, we arrive at the slow-motion laser show of ‘Up Is The Way’.  The tempo is scaled right back for this final sermon from the Reverend Lux Experience. The almost sleepy and louche bass drum transfixes you from the off whilst slick guitar riffs and raunchy clav stabs do the heavy lifting for the incoming sassy, rolling vocal. Spellbindingly good stuff! 

The Disco Church EP oozes class from start to finish with four tracks that showcase the huge talents of one of Norway’s finest.  Lux Experience’s Disco Church is the broadest of churches and you’re all very welcome to join.

Andrew Emil and Glass Slipper join forces with Claude Young for timeless and soulful EP ‘Incidental Introspection’, issued on Colour and Pitch. Celebrating its 10th anniversary, Colour and Pitch is delighted to welcome back to the label Austin duo Glass Slipper (Lisa Cork-Twiss and Brad Eller) and Chicago producer Andrew Emil, alongside a label debut from an all-time musical hero of ours, Detroit’s own Claude Young Jr.

Ranging from 80’s-tinged boogie to House, ‘Incidental Introspection’ cooks up a truly singular, timeless fusion for 2024 and beyond. Slinky mid-tempo opener ‘Fade Out’ summons up retro Miami beach feels, while Lisa’s stunning vocal deals with the very modern issue of social media burnout.

‘Dancefloor Paramour’ keeps the grooves languid, while Lisa’s layered and reverb-drenched vocal summons up a dream-like and fleeting late-night encounter. Instrumental House cut ‘Unclaimed Restraint’ rolls effortlessly with a fat bass-line and dreamy classic chords.
Crushed, off-kilter drums and sparse chords introduce ‘God Only Knows’, before Lisa’s voice expresses both personal and universal existential questions like a mournful gospel confessional. Finally, Brad re-imagines ‘Dancefloor Paramour’ as a slick Disco House number, somewhat reminiscent of classic early Crazy P or Ray Mang productions.

“This EP was finished right before Covid hit in 2020 but feels timeless and I’m so excited to have it finally see the light of day” says Lisa Cork-Twiss. Andrew Emil continues: "Claude and I had been friends for some years through our work together creating sample packs, content, videos and editorial during my days directing the digital category at Reverb. We wrote all the track skeletons during a weekend in 2019 when Claude was staying with me in Chicago, and I finished up the tracks before I sent them off to Brad and Lisa of Glass Slipper to check out. They really loved three of them, and right away recorded their contributions and sent them back. I mixed them down and they added their remix, and there this project was.” Brad concludes: “The base tracks Andrew and Claude created were very inspiring, and Lisa never ceases to amaze me with her songwriting. I feel very lucky to be a part of this talented cohort.”

Good friend of the label Zsolt Pinter aka After X (hu) releases his first EP with Arbor Recordings.
We're delighted to have a four track release, with many musical styles covered.
The original is a strong progressive track that meanders its way through a nine minute journey, offering a beautiful Spanish vocal and stunning drops and melodies, perfect for that summer terraza.
Giddy (UK) then takes the elements into a deep soundscape delight pacing out a slower journey than the original but all the more intriguing and mysterious.
With subtle use of the vocals and a cool bass stab this one could be heard in many types of DJ sets.
Mark Tammo wonders us with a stunning breaks remix. The vocals are worked in beautifully coming back and forth. This versatile track could be used in a slick, smart warm up set and transition really well with 4x4 beats.
Giovanni Dorio completes the EP with a sublime rolling progressive track, with a different use of the original vocals. The fuzz bass is used to good effect here which makes for a blistering blinding track.
