I walk my dog every day through a field which is full of meadow flowers at the moment.  It is so peaceful and beautiful there, it seems far removed from all the troubles of the world.  I imagine heaven to be such a place.

Berlin based, ‘piano poet’ Federico Albanese took inspiration from the brief transitional state between day and night, writing a collection of chamber-music miniatures that withdraw, explore, yet assert their laconic melodies all the more decisively. The emotions to which Albanese has given expression in his thirteen compositions have been articulated with well-considered gestures.   

Equally well-considered is the choice of instruments that Federico Albanese deploys on ‘The Blue Hour’. Piano and synthesizers are joined by a cello, magnified by over-dubbing and sound effects that culminate into a little chamber orchestra, which swells the acoustics while checking the dominance of a clear solo voice. Albanese esteems the Gesamtklang, the overall sound image, with its mixture of compositional precision and dreamlike fluidity. For this reason, the pieces are recorded from start to finish on analogue equipment, further enhancing the warmth of their sound. In ‘Céline’ we hear a discreet beat, scarcely perceptible, a gentle pulse that lends structure without jeopardizing the charm of ‘The Blue Hour’.

Cedric Vermue is a Dutch composer and a producer of neo-classical music. His work is stylized by a blend of classical styles and instruments, mostly piano and strings, combined with contemporary electronic elements. The music’s aesthetics are strongly based upon the principle of stillness, bringing a quieting calm in a world full of turmoil. Working with various textures and layers combined with intimately recorded acoustic elements, the music becomes a carefully crafted landscape. This welcomes any listener to submerge into a poetic universe of sound. His most recent interests include various analog synths, organ and Gregorian chant.

Born in a small town in the Netherlands, Cedric began playing the piano at the age of 8. When he was 14 he started producing film music on the computer and writing piano compositions, all published on YouTube with critical acclaim. Through this platform he was commissioned for further film scoring projects, amongst which included a full- length feature film, “30 Dias Antes”, in 2012. In subsequent years, while studying at Utrecht Conservatory of Music, he began incorporating electronics, strings and ambiences within his music. This exploration culminated into his graduation project, in which he collaborated with six string players and live recordings in the concert hall of the Conservatory. This project was self-released in 2018 as an EP, “Ember”. After graduation he started an intensive studio project, producing two albums, in association with various string players and producer Antal van Nie.

Cedric’s debut album, Left Upon Us, is released in 2019 by Piano & Coffee Records.
