Bar 25 Music Podcast #124 - Thorsten Hammer

I knew what I was doing, I was going to Burning Man; but what I did not know was just how I’d assimilate and react to all the data, images, sounds, smells ... what would become of my ex-asthmatic anxieties and the difficulties of living in this kind of environment: dust, dust, and more dust!!  

In Black Rock City you'll find all the good and all the evil of this world, the only thing that changes is how you take it in, because here the available tools of art and provocation operate differently ... so why not the music too?

Whatever one may think, there is still a comfort zone in Black Rock City. It’s about attitude: it’s always with a given attitude that you do something to then obtain a determined result, break the routine, open up to something new, not appearance at all costs, just letting everything happen because it has to happen. Running the other way in a dark hostile but magical place like this with a voice that says, "I'm not afraid, I'm here now!” the same voice you hear when you're sitting all alone in front of the pyramid of Cheope, its outline standing out majestically in the dark ... far from comforting places. 

I saw some friends collapse because, inevitably, if you let something get to you here that something will change you. I believe that these people will come away with a greater awareness. There is no magic to Burning Man: there are those who listen and those who continue to sit in their comfort zone, the same as those who from home point fingers with their two bit sarcasm.

The moment when the Man burns is certainly one of the most contemporary and modern tribal experiences I've ever witnessed, it’s like being at the centre of a big blockbuster; but where the characters are no longer Ben Hur or gladiators!

On the Monday 70,000 people left Black Rock City and on the ground there wasn’t even a crumb .. only the footprints of those who had been there, which the wind will take care to remove all traces of.

Oh that Friday... That day was pure magic... A full day of adventurous situations, from grooving with a jazz band, to the wedding of our Lebanese friends, to the most beautiful sunset oft he week, to the little house burn, to the loving atmosphere in our camp, to the big Clan burn and the sky filled with red stars, we directly headed to one of our highlight on Afrika Burn in the Arkology stage. It was literally the perfect day. What a day, what a crowd, what an energy, the rest is history... <3

Quatri is a name of the solo producer and DJ Ahmad Qatramis.

Originally from Damascus, based in Paris, Quatri aims at delivering through his musical productions and DJ sets a full journey through light and darkness in a varied spectrum of sounds carried by melodies. From organic and lighthearted sounds to heavy modular equilibrium - all balanced and adapted to the mood of the moment, the foundation of his music is based on one main idea : creating meaningful memories.

Having several productions out at this day, from remixes to EPs released on various labels, Quatri sure made bells ring in the scene since his debut EP entitled “Into The Oblivion” released by Berlinoise label Nie Wieder Schlafen in 2017. Followed by one of his biggest releases yet to date - “Jana” - on Oleeva Records, Quatri has collected great support from heavyweights in the scene like Sebastien Leger, Bedouin, Jonas Rathsman, Edu Imbernon, Timujin, BEHROUZ, Gorje Hewek & Izhevski &more… 

His recent work permitted him to travel around and play at multiple events in Lebanon, France, Germany, and most recently in the desert of Black Rock City. Quatri is hoping to share much more music in the coming days, as a lot is finished and planned, but it is just a matter of time…

Pandhora, a French duo, represents a symbiosis of syncopated rhythms and psychedelic melodies. Inspired by 70’s progressive and psychedelic music, they mix deep electronica music with synths and throbbing guitar riffs. Thanks to their experimentiveness and their incredible creativity, Pandhora enable the audience a unique electronic dance music experience. 

The project is the artistic symbiosis of two musicians who wish to bring sounds that occupied their thoughts back alive. Referring to their style as “Deep Psychedelica”, they always seek for new sonorities and therefore often invite other musicians to join them. Their mission is to create an original universe for each of their productions and performances. 

And we are enormously happy they took their credo to another level in their exclusive Psychedelic Vodkarita for Schirmchendrink: it features live guitar & synths. And, for the first time, it also includes live vocals in the intro of this sensational mix. 

Have a sip and taste this dreamy and powerful gem, it is just a true piece of art. We are still astonished.

Today’s special brings you some Californian sunshine to heat up this freezing European Monday! Please join us in welcoming Dear Humans with their deep and soulful Sunshine Fizz!

Dear Humans, based in Los Angeles, and consisting of DJ, producer and instrumentalist Epstein as well as vocalist and songwriter Alex Who?, refer to themselves as an intergalactic electro band.  

Originally from Colorado, Epstein has been a musician and producer for over 20 years. Originally an instrumentalist, he was first exposed to electronic music in 1997 and started djing house music in the Denver club scene by 2002. Epstein has been bringing together the sounds of Ibiza, Tulum, and Burning Man into melodic, dance floor-bound beats that are infused with live instruments and synthesizers. In March 2018, Epstein launched NCTRNL Recorcds which has quickly established itself as one of LA’s top deep house labels.

Alex Who? Is a Dutch-Tanzanian Singer, songwriter, actress, model and performer. From a very young age Who? sang and acted, which led to her attending the Amsterdam school for Theatre and the Performing Arts while also traveling the world performing in clubs, leading a five-piece Jazz band and presenting a nationwide music television programme in Turkey. After graduating Who? was awarded various roles in Dutch television series and film before her demo caught the attention of Craig Kallman, CEO of Atlantic records.
That triggered her move to the states, getting signed by Empire Records and releasing two EP’s in the past few years.

Dear Humans created its first waves with their release “Like You” a few months back. It hasn't been one year since Corey and Alex joined forces and we already can't wait to get more of this fantastic combination of smokey, soulful vocals paired with deep electronic grooves. And, since they spend quite some time in the studio lately, we're excite to what's coming next!

Thanks for this beautiful sip, we love it! This set is a recording of Dear Humans live performance at @hedone-berlin in LA of November 16th, 2019.

For most of us, our first connection with C.M.A. was at a meeting. A meeting usually takes place at a specific time and place where two or more addicts come together for the purpose of recovery. In contrast to a meeting, a C.M.A. group is a spiritual entity that exists beyond the specific time and place of the meeting for the purpose of carrying the message to the addict who still suffers. Regular meetings are encouraged to list their meeting time and place on local and national meeting lists. Groups are encouraged to register with C.M.A. World Services and elect service representatives to the Area Assembly. 

Whenever two or more addicts come together for the purpose of recovery they can form a C.M.A. group — providing that, as a group, they have no other affiliation. Each group's primary purpose should be to carry the message to the addict who still suffers. By Tradition, each group is autonomous, conducting itself as its members see fit, provided that its actions do not impact other groups or the C.M.A. Fellowship as a whole. C.M.A. does not govern individual meetings, instead relying upon the spiritual principles outlined in our Twelve Traditions and Traditions Concepts to guide each group's actions.
