A meeting of two bonafide black belts for an all out master class. 

Another highlight of Crown Ruler's 25 year celebrations & the final hit out from a crazy summer season - Detroit Jedi, Marcellus Pittman & Naarm's undisputed Queen, DJ JNETT pack all the punches on this very special, extended b2b session.

Recorded live from a bursting Night Cat, feel the sweat off the walls as two old friends & esteemed contemporaries showed out. Travelling through raw uptempo grooves, pulsing deep house, acid explorations and straight hard slapping techno, the two take it everywhere and back again - holding an enthused party in the palm of their hands.

While the sounds of this raucous crowd was not recorded, if you listen closely you can feel the palpable energy as the lightly audible noise of jubilated dancers come through the stylus. Jammed and hot from an hour in and thick til close, this is audio proof of the way two very perceptive DJs can grab hold and take you to higher places.

We were cruising in the back of a bus on our way to a school football tournament when Damian handed me his Discman, bumping a Derrick May set. Needless to say, that moment flipped a big switch in me — nothing was the same after that.

Fast forward 25 years and we are still living house music.

Damian is that quiet hometown hero — humble vibe, but a master on the decks.
This is his only vinyl warm-up for Jeremy Underground at the MAD crew throwdown in June 2025.

"Deon Jamar is a Detroit native whose roots stem from the crates of family.

Coming from a household where his father was a DJ, turntables and records were always around. 

It was in his discovery of Detroit's underground where he found the inspiration to follow in his father's footsteps.

 

Deon’s DJ career began in 2015 as resident DJ & organizer for the monthly hip-hop showcase "Bluecollar Gentleman". 

During this time he would also begin working with Theo Parrish to promote the Music Gallery party series and also working behind the scenes for the Sound Signature record label. This work would culminate in a co-curation role for the DJ Kicks compilation “Detroit Forward” (K7 Records) where he enlisted hometown artists to represent the progressive sounds of today. His track, 

"North End Funk", was selected to join the mix, making his production credit debut..


Aside from just playing gigs, Deon also enjoys programming events of his own such as the "Healin' Session" party series and the music and art exhibition, "Black Music".


Black Music has since evolved into the home for Deon's original productions. 

Launching the label with his debut album, “Altars”."

The very last BATB at the Styx was one to remember, with possibly the most intense psychedelic vibes of the year.

This closing set went from breaks to ethnic pop to the Buzzcocks to some afro disco jams to some Turkish psych to a 70s West coast latin rock anthem to Rude Movements to...that devil's hand landing on the last record (the Balek Band) 30 seconds before its ending...Lots of booing ensued followed by the biggest cheer ever...Chant down Babylon!

Our Ihmelehto set from Slush After Party 2018 in Helsinki.  Me and @arto-lehtola had a lot of fun bringing our sound to the leading start-up event in Europe :)  

Ihmelehto, a Helsinki-based party collective. Imagine yourself riding an unicorn down an arctic mountain towards sunset, holding a flag which turns out to be a space blanket. Yeah, that’s pretty much it. Something real, something different, something weird. Always with passion and heart.
