Nostalgia can sometimes be a weird, fickle emotion, which, when triggered, will envelop our brains into a neatly packed, wistful time machine. Although there are times when these feelings of nostalgia can feel more melancholy, there are certain instances which may bring up fonder memories of past experiences. Certain smells at your favorite local market may elicit thoughts of your favorite home-cooked meal, prepared by Mom. Music plays an important role in this thought process, since it transcends time, space, culture and language.

Slapp Symphony’s latest single certainly fits this criteria. On “Old School Love,” James Westbrook and Leti Leti aim to evoke your brain’s memory cache. Joined by recent Na Hoku Hanohano awardee Josh Tatofi—son of Tiva Tatofi of Kapena fame and Maryanne Ito—2015 recipient of the Na Hoku Hanohano award—“Old School Love,” which took two years to perfect, will flood your brain with dopamine while whisking you away to a time where love was all you needed and wanted; when your thoughts were uninhibited by life’s ills.

“Old School Love,” which was recorded on Oʻahu at Lana Lane Studios and at Josh Tatofiʻs The Bar Studio— and mastered by Mike Bozzi (Kendrick Lamar)—will serve as Slapp Symphonyʻs first new single of the year and will be coupled with an official release through iTunes, the Slapp Symphony website and all major digital platforms on 8/30/17.
