Numa noite de inverno profunda e gelada,
a sombra lançada sobre as chaminés do mundo não era a de um velho vestido de vermelho,
mas a de “Satan Claus,” envolto em um manto negro.

Ele era o ceifeiro que governava as almas dos mortos,
descendo ao mundo humano apenas na noite de Natal,
para testar mais uma vez as “almas dignas” em um ritual estranho.

Naquele ano, ele escolheu dois:

• O feiticeiro do pincel que pintava a vida das ondas — Katsushika Hokusai
• O monge silencioso que descobriu as leis da vida — Gregor Johann Mendel


A voz de Satan Claus soou fria, mas suave:

“Juntos enfrentarão a prova em dupla mais difícil da história.
A tarefa — criar a maior árvore de Natal viva do mundo.
Mendel fará a árvore crescer, e Hokusai a adornará.”

Os dois se entreolharam.
Mesmo na morte, o fogo em seus olhos não havia se apagado.

Mendel ajoelhou-se silenciosamente sobre a terra.
No instante em que seus dedos tocaram o solo de inverno, ele pulsou levemente.

Ao seu comando — o buscador da lei genética —
um pequeno broto começou a crescer com um som semelhante a uma respiração.

Seu caule perfurou o céu,
seus galhos se espalharam como se bebessem a lógica da terra,
suas agulhas verdes tremiam em ritmo com o sopro do vento.

Em poucos minutos, a árvore ultrapassou os edifícios.
Em dezenas de minutos, ultrapassou as montanhas.
Por fim—

Elevou-se muito além da Torre Eiffel.

A árvore gigante movia seus galhos por conta própria,
balançando lentamente como uma criatura dotada de vontade.

Um lampejo de espanto cruzou o rosto de Satan Claus.

Hokusai não hesitou.

Diante dele se estendia uma tela viva e pulsante—
a maior árvore de Natal do mundo.

Carregava montanhas de materiais em suas costas,
saltava sobre os galhos levados pelo vento.

Seu pincel bebia a luz, rasgava o ar,
como se pintasse a própria natureza.

Os ornamentos que criou eram imensos, impregnados da alma do Japão:

• Espirais douradas que lembravam cordas sagradas
• Esferas azuis cintilando como ondas de ukiyo‑e em movimento
• Enfeites prateados brilhando na forma do Monte Fuji
• Desenhos de tachibana, flores de cerejeira, fênix e deuses do trovão — memórias do Japão encarnadas


Para contemplar o todo, evocou um fantasma de pinceladas voando pelo céu,
e com motivos do Fuji e da Torre Eiffel,
compôs a árvore como uma vasta pintura.

A colossal árvore, adornada por Hokusai,
balançava como se festejasse,
espalhando luz que tingia o céu noturno.

Satan Claus observou em silêncio e murmurou:

“…Esta é uma criação que rivaliza até com Deus.”
