A 'Nocturne' is a piece evocative of night time. Chopin wrote 21 of them and many are favourites amongst the 'miniature' piano repertoire.  Consisting of exquisite, songlike melodies, a recurring sense of inspired 'ad lib' with the freedom in some of his rhythms, engorging harmonic movement, all so sentimental and always tinged with such 'Chopin-eque' melancholia. The Op.15 No.2 exemplifies all of these things: a slightly warmer and more romantic reminiscence in the 'book ending' sections, and in the middle section the surging outpour of anguish.
