The first new You Shriek music in a decade reveals a true solo passion project—an unmistakable indie aesthetic beneath the trappings of a classic alternative major-label effort. Listeners might recognize the influence of enduring left-of-the-dial rock guitar heroes Johnny Marr and Will Sergeant, the swirling and spacious synthscapes of Ultravox and Clan of Xymox, and an earnest nod to the structural pop of Duran Duran and The Cars.

@ekatamusic is a London based DJ/Producer + @naturalselectionlondon Resident who has become a prominant and well respected artist in the Electro scene.

In 2022, she was selected as one of the new faces of @tresorberlin in Berlin, which saw her play an Electro set in the prestigious cage back in September.
She has also played at the likes of Meraki, Fold + @hoerberlin and she has a well recieved release on highly esteemed Avoidant, the Electro sub label of Soma records under her belt. 

With 5 more releases planned this year on some of her favourite Electro labels aswell as debut shows in Paris this spring, she's set to flourish further in 2023.

EKATA is self-described as genre and sound obsessive. She has built a reputation as a huge advocate for purist Electro and an artist that orchestrates a dark and warped experience that brings energy to the dancefloor with her meticulous signature style. Her sound best personifies ominous grooves and obvious sci-fi fixations which embody her carefully picked selections. ⚙️✨🛸

Hydroz MMW 2023 MiniMix

So, back 25 years ago (holy shit), I was hanging with my boy DJ Link in Cologne, Germany, playing some tunes and making the wiki-wiki on the turntables. I had a bunch of lyricist tunes that I had been playing out, many of which few people stateside knew, and even fewer in Germany, yet they always got a great reaction, especially in the back nook of Liquid Sky or Six Pack (if you know, you know).

I slapped this together from what was probably stacked next to the decks to get these tunes out into the world, and it did well. The title comes from a lyric in the song Definition by Black Star, and this was the time of actual "mixtapes," so the skit in the middle was intentional for the turnover.

I was also fortunate to know some amazing graphic artists and this cover was designed by the homie Don Q Shot (helluva DJ as well) at his company, Planet Pixel.

It's not fancy. It’s not perfect. The tracks are dope; a perfectly fancy snapshot of a vibe and a place in time.
