THE LETTER

Every good man has a basement. Every decent person has a room they don't show the guests. And the room gets crowded when the guests never leave.

The Letter is a 13-track split-personality concept album that retells Robert Louis Stevenson's Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde as a confession written by a dying hand that keeps changing between the one that heals and the one that kills. Doctor Henry Jekyll spent forty-seven years building the most respectable man in London — charity boards, handshakes the right firmness, smiles the right width. Then he built a formula that let the basement come upstairs. And the basement had a name, and the name was Edward Hyde, and Hyde didn't need permission or reputation or the bishop's approval. Hyde just needed a body and a city and one night without a leash.

The production splits with the identity. Jekyll's tracks are clean dark pop — polished piano, precise drums, controlled elegance. Hyde's tracks are filthy distorted trap — crushing 808s, blown-out bass, lo-fi violence. And the tracks where one becomes the other — the transformations, the relapses, the involuntary changes — the production degrades in real time. Clean becomes corrupted. Polished becomes broken. The mix itself loses control the way the man loses control.

The album ends with a letter and a poison. Both men reaching for the same glass. The respectable man and the monster agreeing, for the first and last time, on the same thing: this has to stop. And the hand that writes the final sentence is changing mid-word. And the ink runs out. And the letter is found by a friend who trusted the face. And the face on the floor belongs to the wrong man. Or the right one. Depending on which basement you've been keeping locked.
