Mitekiss returns with his two-track single ‘Seventeen (feat. Pixie Cola)’ and ‘Grief In Puddles’, teeing up for his next big project that’s due to land early 2022 on Hospital Records. His acclaimed ‘Night Bus Stories’ EP came out earlier this year and was an introspective glimpse into his journeys home on the N68 and an ode to London life. Honing in on his reputation as a deep, soulful drum & bass extraordinaire, Mitekiss continues to release music of the highest calibre alongside unearthing and curating some of the finest talent for his own Goldfat Records imprint which he runs alongside Mr Porter.

Mitekiss’ signature soulful production ties in beautifully with up and coming vocalist, Pixie Cola. Her soothing vocals bring listeners to an upbeat liquid number on ‘Seventeen’. Combining his love for jazz with his skill for being a top notch A&R scout and tastemaker, Mitekiss and Pixie Cola cook up a relatable tale infused with dreamy synths, a bouncing upright bass and crystal clear percussion.

‘Grief In Puddles’ sees Mitekiss explore the darker and minimal avenues of drum & bass. Sombre chords, skippy drumwork and a selection of gently mangled bass wobbles all demonstrate Mitekiss’ versatile style. His ability to produce a deep and dangerous banger should not be tested.

Aside running his Goldfat label which has seen recent recent releases from the likes of Winslow, IYRE, Telomic, pyxis, Athena and Digital Native to name a few, Mitekiss affirms his status amongst the drum & bass community with his music frequenting support from the likes of LSB, London Elektricity, Hybrid Minds, DJ Ron, Nu:Tone and Degs. Bristol based producer Lilac announces herself to the scene with her first release courtesy of Inform Records. It is hard to believe that 'Fade Away' is the artist's first output, with intricacies in production and vibes abound. Emotion and energy seep out from the introduction to the track and build to a crescendo with a potent bass line to shake any system. Classic breaks and vocal chops sit alongside the purring synth lines which make this track feel so warm and atmospheric, with all the elements talking to each other in perfect harmony.

The flip sees a remix of Lilac's 'Got it Bad' by Southampton's Dub Concept. Serious sub and crisp percussion light up this track, whilst the call and response piano and vocal parts add depth to the overall soundscape. Available to buy now, this is likely to be the first of many tracks from Lilac so keep your ears to the ground.

Our fantastical Finnish duo that is of course Askel & Elere, or Juho Kavasto and Sainey Gibba, return with a flourish in the form of the 4-track ‘Glass’ EP. While the pair have been busy both individually and collectively, netting releases on Hospital, Fokuz and Delta9, we warmly welcome them back to Soulvent. Reprising 2019’s ‘Yeah Alright’ EP - the pair continue to evolve their slick and sophisticated sound, with this EP another clear indicator of the undoubtedly bright future ahead of them.

The title track ‘Glass’ is calm and inviting; the soft pads welcome low-passed drums and a firm hi-hat. The detuned climax is a luscious roller, providing a window into what is to come. 

‘Envelop’ splashes open with screeching synths and digital noise. This thunderingly quiet build belches forth nothing short of a bowel-churning burst of driving low end and smooth vocal cuts, perfect for decimating any dance floor in your local vicinity. 

The ever so interestingly dubbed ‘Groke’ chirrups to life with it’s gnarled topline sounding like a warped pizzicato string section. Warming rhodes, brisk breaks and a fluid sub bass frame this experimental number with both style and grace. 

Rounding things off, ‘Twice’ is so nice they named it once, but you will need at least two listens to appreciate the mastery at work. Syncopated synths and misshapen, reversed vocals meet rumbling bass and collide amongst breaks caked in white noise.

Smashing into all good stores on the 4th of September, don’t miss this shatteringly smooth release from the hotly tipped pair that is Askel & Elere.
