Bowed Cymbal And Vibraphone

"Black Lines To The North" is a compositional sketch comprising of four short movements. It depicts being on the Northern Line of the London Underground tube system traveling North from Tottenham Court Road.

Instruments featured are: Drum Kit, two vibraphones, xylophone, bass guitar and a pre-recorded tape loop.

Compositionally, the work is largely improvisational and builds upon the use of metric modulation and polyrhythmic exploration. Each player begins performing within an issued time signature but within each movement they must explore various sub-divisions and metric modulations which continue to modulate throughout the work. 
Harmonically the piece uses five four-note harmonic cells that interchange from movement to movement.
