First off I am mostly pro proxy. Especially in a competitive setting like cedh. In cedh you want to play the player not their wallet. However I believe it's become a problem when everyone's answer to everything is "just proxy". There are good reasons to proxy and good reasons not to. I'd argue that most players don't need to and most likely shouldn't proxy at least not often.


Before we get into it the most important thing is to have the discussion as part of rule 0 with your opponents, your play group and also to check with your LGS. Like I said in cedh everyone should allow proxies both online webcam play and IRL. It's also fine to use proxies for stuff you own to keep it in good condition or save the trouble of swapping between decks. However a lot of groups have an issue where once the floodgates of proxying stuff you don't own is opened it becomes hard to control group power level and the arms race. When everyone can print out or buy cheap proxies of all the best staples it's hard to persuade them not to use them. This is good if you're playing cedh or very high power. It's not as good if you're looking for games at a variety of power levels and different styles of play. Most players have only one or a handful of copies if any of the expensive format staples this let's them focus those on a few higher power or cedh decks. This also let's them use worse cards to build lower power decks to have variety and be able to play in more pods. There are plenty of good budget lists for $50, $100, $200. There's also nothing wrong with just wanting to play with only legitimate cards even outside of group or LGS rules. Not to get into a whole debate on this but there are a lot of examples in the world where people pay for the real versions of stuff they could easily get cheaper or free. This also means you shouldn't hate someone just because they don't want to play against proxies in casual. They're not necessarily trying to gatekeep, in fact many will have a lower power deck to play with you, or let you borrow one of their decks to use.


Lastly, you can use the flag '-Dfile=path-to-service_account_file' and point the command to a service account JSON file. I do not recommend this approach as it does not follow best practices around managing service account credentials. There plenty of reasons why you shouldn't do this, so I encourage you to read more about the best practices here.


I hear you, But Proxies are light weight files that shouldnt be treated much different to the original rushes. Premiere just needs to remeber where they are located. Pretty simple. At the moment it cant. Its shouldn't matter where the proxies are located - they can play from anywehre - Premiere is just alwasy losing its connection to them. That sounds like a bug to me!
