Sappho is a queer event producer and musical artist based out of Portland Oregon. Harkening back to the most famous woman artist of antiquity, Sappho’s namesake has a strong connection to femme empowerment. Much like the fabled name that she built her base upon, she has often been the lone femme on a line-up. With over 20 plus years of involvement in the dance community, she is a mentor to queer and femme artists in event production and the artform of djing. She has been changing the status quo, with her deep research, precise, almost librametric methods, branching into new forms and combinations that weave an intricate modern day poetry for a current generation of lost queer souls, freeing them, to dance, to love, to feel - the way only a perfect prose of poetry could elicit. This is Sappho, she is a DJ, a proud queer human, a patient guide, and a poet for the dance floor.

She didn't disappoint and gave us a pitch perfect performance solidifying her as one of Seattle's natural selectors. We are privileged to be one of her earliest live performances!!

Darius is a self proclaimed "House Addict". He fell in love with the house sound as a teenager living in Montreal back in the early '90s when he would stay up late on Friday nights and record a dance mix show on Montreal radio. He was hooked from then on. He then proceeded to start mixing with one tape deck and a CD player and never looked back.

When he moved to Vancouver in the late '90's, he started buying records almost daily and spent most of his free time at his favourite record stores at the time, Bassix and Mekanix records. Over the next few years, Darius held various residencies and ran 2 club nights in Vancouver, playing alongside such talent as Lawnchair Generals and Johnny Fiasco, as well as playing at numerous after hours and raves.

Today, Darius is happily married with a young son, but his love for house music hasn't died. Darius was busy making a name for himself in the underground scene in 2015 with mixes released around the world on such labels as House Salad, Reason2Funk, Uglyhouse, Little Routine, Selecta Music, Leven Underground and House Jet Radio just to name a few.

He also launched the hugely successful "Soul Room Sessions" series showcasing the soulful/jazzy side of house music with guest mixes from some of the biggest names in the game and the series is still going strong in 2016!

A recording of elevator classics and supermarket hits. And that pretty much describes the mix. Recorded on the 14th of June 2018 during dinner service for Colonel Tan's @ Revolver Upstairs. Its not normally like this but there was a good response after the first hour - so I went the hog.

If you ever wondered what a vocal house set from me would sound like... here ya go!  It's a bit fast, due to where I was left off and how well that was working I did not change ;)
 
This set is from the genre, "FUN" - was played live at the FUNderware party at the historic Eagle House in Eureka days ago :)
 
Playing a closing set after Jphlip starting in the wee hours of the morning seemed one of the larger challenges I could take on.
 
Why do I say that?  Well we know that Dirtybird is such a popular brand that in smaller towns it's some people's whole concept of house music.  It's funky, it's dirty, it's easy to dance to.
 
But not so easy to follow with another style.   Thinking of what from my arsenal would work I decided to explore my more vocal, funky side of house and see what happened.  I got really into this, pulling tracks from the past decade or so that fit the mood I wanted to create.
 
Spent a lot of time on the playlist and I'm glad I did.  Cause here's what happened...  I even went on a half-hour late, at 4am, which really worried me.  But the dancers did not look tired :) So I danced a bit more to Jhlip and Marjo on the 2 x 4, promised that we did not have to end on time at 5. 
 
I got into my set rt away and people were vibing.  About 5:15 someone showed me their watch, said it was getting late or something (I can't understand much behind the booth). I thought maybe it was someone from the venue, but then the dude walked onto the floor and started dancing which was confusing.
 
But it was getting a bit thin so I decided to wind up my set at it's original 1.5 hour length and stop at 5:30
 
Either the dancers smelled this, or they just really liked where the flow was going, but they just kept coming back to the dance floor
 
I got to my final track and the floor was full.  Nobody was telling me to stop.  I got to about 1.5 minutes left in the track and decided to mix out.  You can here this in the mix at 1 hour 34 minutes in.
 
You will notice I made the executive decision to play another hour :) . I was really having fun with the music and happy to continue.  Eventually I did outlast the dance floor, and wrapped it up.  
 
Oh, also towards the end there was some dude who either was trying to get on the decks , or else to get me to play a track from his usb.  Let it be known the answer is always no.  If you are not on the lineup you don't play.  Period.  And I have plenty of my own music, I don't need random extras.  Thanks.  
 
So I guess another part of going til the dance floor couldn't handle it anymore was actually protecting the dance floor against some rando trying to get on the decks at the end.  Happy to defend dance floor integrity anytime :)

Ben Annand Brings The Vocal Funk (Live in Eureka 11-22-19)

Cenobyte is the passion fueled music endeavors of Denver local Cody Bates. He got his start in the L.A. club scene in 2012, interviewing DJ's and reviewing shows in the city. From there he began doing professional artist spotlights across the Northeast, working with then up-and-coming Ichisan and the Eskimo Recordings label. Then finally, making his way into Denver's underground, he immediately found himself working with crews like Sorted, Invisible City, Nocturnal, and Mother Earth Sound System. Since then he's hit the decks and has been playing events alongside some of the best talent in the city; from iconic locals to international acts like Daniel Avery. 

The name Cenobyte is inspired from novelist Clive Barker; a man who specializes in peeling back the safe veneer of society and exposing the otherworldly. More importantly, a true ambassador for the things that go bump in the night. The oddly oppressed, and the strange; we are the Nightbreed after all, are we not? Whether paying homage to the Progressive DJs who first inspired him, or dimming the lights and sinking into deep house and atmospheric techno, you can always count on journey through the unknown. A story each it’s own.
