ਅਜੈ ਗੰਗ ਜਲੁ ਅਟਲੁ ਸਿਖ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਭ ਨਾਵੈ ॥
 (ਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜੁਨ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ) ਕਦੇ ਨਾਹ ਮੁੱਕਣ ਵਾਲਾ (ਨਾਮ-ਰੂਪ) ਗੰਗਾ ਜਲ (ਵਹਿ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ) ਸਾਰੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ ।
The stream of the Lord's Name flows like the Ganges, invincible and unstoppable. The Sikhs of the Sangat all bathe in it.

ਨਿਤ ਪੁਰਾਣ ਬਾਚੀਅਹਿ ਬੇਦ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਮੁਖਿ ਗਾਵੈ ॥
ਪੁਰਾਣ ਸਦਾ ਪੜ੍ਹੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ (ਭੀ ਆਪ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ) ਮੂੰਹੋਂ ਵੇਦਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ।
It appears as if the holy texts like the Puraanaas are being recited there and Brahma himself sings the Vedas.

ਅਜੈ ਚਵਰੁ ਸਿਰਿ ਢੁਲੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਲੀਅਉ ॥
(ਆਪ ਦੇ) ਸਿਰ ਤੇ ਰੱਬੀ ਚਉਰ ਝੁੱਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਨੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਣ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੂੰਹੋਂ (ਸਦਾ) ਉਚਾਰਿਆ ਹੈ ।
The invincible chauri, the fly-brush, waves over His head; with His mouth, He drinks in the Ambrosial Nectar of the Naam.

ਗੁਰ ਅਰਜੁਨ ਸਿਰਿ ਛਤ੍ਰੁ ਆਪਿ ਪਰਮੇਸਰਿ ਦੀਅਉ ॥
ਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜੁਨ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਤੇ ਇਹ ਛਤਰ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿਆ ਹੈ ।
The Transcendent Lord Himself has placed the royal canopy over the head of Guru Arjun.

ਮਿਲਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਅੰਗਦ ਅਮਰ ਗੁਰ ਗੁਰੁ ਰਾਮਦਾਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਪਹਿ ਗਯਉ ॥
 ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ, ਗੁਰੂ ਅੰਗਦ ਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ ਜੀ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ, ਗੁਰੂ ਰਾਮਦਾਸ ਜੀ ਹਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ ।
Guru Nanak, Guru Angad, Guru Amar Daas and Guru Raam Daas met together before the Lord.

ਹਰਿਬੰਸ ਜਗਤਿ ਜਸੁ ਸੰਚਰ੍ਯਉ ਸੁ ਕਵਣੁ ਕਹੈ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਮੁਯਉ ॥੧॥
ਹੇ ਹਰਿਬੰਸ! ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਸਰ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ । ਕੌਣ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਰਾਮਦਾਸ ਜੀ ਮੁਏ ਹਨ?
So speaks HARBANS: Their Praises echo and resound all over the world; who can possibly say that the Great Gurus are dead? ||1||

ਜੋਤਿ ਰੂਪਿ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਹਾਯਉ ॥
The Embodiment of Light, the Lord Himself is called Guru Nanak.

ਤਾ ਤੇ ਅੰਗਦੁ ਭਯਉ ਤਤ ਸਿਉ ਤਤੁ ਮਿਲਾਯਉ ॥
From Him, came Guru Angad; His essence was absorbed into the essence.

ਅੰਗਦਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ਅਮਰੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਥਿਰੁ ਕੀਅਉ ॥
Guru Angad showed His Mercy, and established Amar Daas as the True Guru.

ਅਮਰਦਾਸਿ ਅਮਰਤੁ ਛਤ੍ਰੁ ਗੁਰ ਰਾਮਹਿ ਦੀਅਉ ॥
Guru Amar Daas blessed Guru Raam Daas with the umbrella of immortality.

ਗੁਰ ਰਾਮਦਾਸ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪਰਸਿ ਕਹਿ ਮਥੁਰਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਯਣ ॥
So speaks Mat'huraa: gazing upon the Blessed Vision, the Darshan of Guru Raam Daas, His speech became as sweet as nectar.

ਮੂਰਤਿ ਪੰਚ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਣ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਅਰਜੁਨੁ ਪਿਖਹੁ ਨਯਣ ॥੧॥
With your eyes, see the certified Primal Person, Guru Arjun, the Fifth Manifestation of the Guru. ||1||

ਥਾਪਿਆ ਲਹਿਣਾ ਜੀਂਵਦੇ ਗੁਰਿਆਈ ਸਿਰਿ ਛਤ੍ਰੁ ਫਿਰਾਇਆ।
During his life time he waved the canopy of Guru seat on the head of Lahina(Guru Angad) and merged his own light into him.

ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ਕੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨਾਨਕਿ ਰੂਪੁ ਵਟਾਇਆ।
Guru Nanak now transformed himself.

ਲਖਿ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਸਕਈ ਆਚਰਜੇ ਆਚਰਜੁ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ।
This mystery is incomprehensible for anybody that awe-inspiring (Nanak) accomplished a wonderful task.

ਕਾਇਆ ਪਲਟਿ ਸਰੂਪੁ ਬਣਾਇਆ ॥੪੫॥
He converted (his body) into a new form.

ਦਿਚੈ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਦੇਵਣਾ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਵਸਤੁ ਤਿਸੈ ਘਰਿ ਆਵੈ।
Liabilities of the previous births have to be settled and the thing goes to the house it belongs to.

ਬੈਠਾ ਸੋਢੀ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੁ ਰਾਮਦਾਸੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਕਹਾਵੈ।
Now Guru Ram Das, a Sodhi emperor, seated on the Guru-seat is called the true Guru.

ਗੁਰ ਅੰਗਦੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਅੰਗੁ ਤੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਿਰਖੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਫਲ ਫਲਿਆ।
From the limb of Guru (Nanak) the tree of nector fruits in the name of Guru Angad has flourished.

ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਜਗਾਈਅਨੁ ਦੀਵੇ ਤੇ ਜਿਉ ਦੀਵਾ ਬਲਿਆ।
As a lamp lits another lamp, with the light (of Guru Nanak), the flame (of Guru Angad) has been lit.

ਪੁਨਿ ਰਾਛਸ ਕਾ ਕਾਟਾ ਸੀਸਾ ॥
ਫਿਰ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਅਸਿਕੇਤੁ ਨੇ

ਸ੍ਰੀ ਅਸਿਕੇਤੁ ਜਗਤ ਕੇ ਈਸਾ ॥
ਰਾਖਸ਼ ਦਾ ਸੀਸ ਕਟ ਦਿੱਤਾ।

ਪੁਹਪਨ ਬ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਗਗਨ ਤੇ ਭਈ ॥
ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਤੋਂ ਫੁਲਾ ਦੀ ਬਰਖਾ ਹੋਈ।

ਸਭਹਿਨ ਆਨਿ ਬਧਾਈ ਦਈ ॥੩੭੫॥
ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਆ ਕੇ ਵਧਾਈ ਦਿੱਤੀ ॥੩੭੫॥

ਧੰਨ੍ਯ ਧੰਨ੍ਯ ਲੋਗਨ ਕੇ ਰਾਜਾ ॥
(ਅਤੇ ਕਿਹਾ) ਹੇ ਲੋਕਾ ਦੇ ਰਾਜੇ! ਤੁਸੀਂ ਧੰਨ ਹੋ,

ਦੁਸਟਨ ਦਾਹ ਗਰੀਬ ਨਿਵਾਜਾ ॥
(ਤੁਸੀਂ) ਦੁਸ਼ਟਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਗ਼ਰੀਬਾ ਦੀ ਰਖਿਆ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ।

ਅਖਲ ਭਵਨ ਕੇ ਸਿਰਜਨਹਾਰੇ ॥
ਹੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੀ ਸਿਰਜਨਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ!

ਦਾਸ ਜਾਨਿ ਮੁਹਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਉਬਾਰੇ ॥੩੭੬॥
ਦਾਸ ਜਾਣ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਰਖਿਆ ਕਰੋ ॥੩੭੬॥

ਸਿਰੀਰਾਗੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ਘਰੁ ੧ ॥
Siree Raag, Fourth Mehla, First House:

ਮੈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਬਿਰਹੁ ਅਤਿ ਅਗਲਾ ਕਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਘਰਿ ਆਇ ॥
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ (ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ) ਵਿਛੋੜੇ ਦਾ ਭਾਰੀ ਦਰਦ ਹੈ (ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਤੜਪ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਕਿਵੇਂ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆ ਮਿਲੇ 
Within my mind and body is the intense pain of separation; how can my Beloved come to meet me in my home?

ਜਾ ਦੇਖਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਦੇਖਿਐ ਦੁਖੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
 ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਮੇਰਾ (ਵਿਛੋੜੇ ਦਾ) ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ 
When I see my God, seeing God Himself, my pain is taken away.

ਜਾਇ ਪੁਛਾ ਤਿਨ ਸਜਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਕਿਤੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੧॥
(ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਤਸੰਗੀ ਸੱਜਣਾਂ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ) ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਸੱਜਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਪੁੱਛਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕਿਸ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਇਆਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
I go and ask my friends, ""How can I meet and merge with God?""||1||

ਮੇਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਾ ਮੈ ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ! ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ (ਸਹਾਰਾ) ਨਹੀਂ ਹ
O my True Guru, without You I have no other at all.

ਹਮ ਮੂਰਖ ਮੁਗਧ ਸਰਣਾਗਤੀ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੇਲੇ ਹਰਿ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਅਸੀ ਜੀਵ ਮੂਰਖ ਹਾਂ, ਅੰਞਾਣ ਹਾਂ, (ਪਰ) ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਏ ਹਨ (ਜੇਹੜਾ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
I am foolish and ignorant; I seek Your Sanctuary. Please be Merciful and unite me with the Lord. ||1||Pause||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਕਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥
ਗੁਰੂ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਇਹ ਦਾਤਿ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The True Guru is the Giver of the Name of the Lord. God Himself causes us to meet Him.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਬੁਝਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਹਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਈ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਜੇਡਾ (ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਾਲਾ) ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ 
The True Guru understands the Lord God. There is no other as Great as the Guru.

ਹਉ ਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਢਹਿ ਪਵਾ ਕਰਿ ਦਇਆ ਮੇਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੨॥
(ਮੇਰੀ ਇਹੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ, ਆਪਾ‑ਭਾਵ ਮਿਟਾ ਕੇ, ਆ ਪਵਾਂ । (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਹੀ) ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
I have come and collapsed in the Guru's Sanctuary. In His Kindness, He has united me with God. ||2||

ਮਨਹਠਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਉਪਾਵ ਥਕੇ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥
ਮਨ ਦੇ ਹਠ ਨਾਲ (ਕੀਤੇ ਤਪ ਆਦਿਕ ਸਾਧਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ) ਕਦੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭਾ । (ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਉਪਾਵ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਭ ਥੱਕ ਹੀ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ 
No one has found Him by stubborn-mindedness. All have grown weary of the effort.

ਸਹਸ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਕਰਿ ਰਹੇ ਮਨਿ ਕੋਰੈ ਰੰਗੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
(ਤਪ ਆਦਿਕ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ) ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਸਿਆਣਪਾਂ (ਜੇਹੜੇ ਲੋਕ) ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪੇ੍ਰਮ ਵਲੋਂ ਕੋਰਾ ਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ) ਜੇ ਮਨ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪੇ੍ਰਮ ਤੋਂ) ਕੋਰਾ ਹੀ ਰਹੇ ਤਾਂ ਨਾਮ ਰੰਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਚੜ੍ਹਦਾ 
Thousands of clever mental tricks have been tried, but still, the raw and undisciplined mind does not absorb the Color of the Lord's Love.

ਕੂੜਿ ਕਪਟਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਜੋ ਬੀਜੈ ਖਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੩॥
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ (ਬਾਹਰੋਂ ਹਠ-ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੀ) ਠੱਗੀ ਨਾਲ ਕਦੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭਾ । (ਇਹ ਪੱਕਾ ਨਿਯਮ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਕੋਈ ਬੀਜਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਉਹ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੩।
By falsehood and deception, none have found Him. Whatever you plant, you shall eat. ||3||

ਸਭਨਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਆਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਭ ਜੀਅ ਤੇਰੇ ਤੂੰ ਰਾਸਿ ॥
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੀ (ਸਹੈਤਾ ਦੀ) ਹੀ ਆਸ ਹੈ, ਸਭ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੀ (ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ) ਹਨ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ (ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਆਤਮਕ) ਰਾਸ ਪੂੰਜੀ ਹੈਂ 
O God, You are the Hope of all. All beings are Yours; You are the Wealth of all.

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਧਹੁ ਖਾਲੀ ਕੋ ਨਹੀ ਦਰਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾ ਨੋ ਸਾਬਾਸਿ ॥
 ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਖ਼ਾਲੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੁੜਦਾ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਆਦਰ ਮਾਣ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ
O God, none return from You empty-handed; at Your Door, the Gurmukhs are praised and acclaimed.

ਬਿਖੁ ਭਉਜਲ ਡੁਬਦੇ ਕਢਿ ਲੈ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥੪॥੧॥੬੫॥
