Certified Goon Squad (Also known as CGS) Is an American Hip-Hop Group based in Cleveland, Ohio. The Group was formed in 2009 by Robin Lewis (L-Reezy) & Noble Crump (Nizzy) while attending John F. Kennedy High School. At first, the group went by the name Street Souljaz, but was changed due to confusion of people assuming the group were involved in gang activities. During High School, they would battle other people at lunchtime and in the hallways, gaining attention and exposure from their peers. In December 2009, L-Reezy & Nizzy participated in their school’s Christmas play by performing a remix to Gucci Mane’s 2009 hit single “Wasted” titled “Bright Lights.” The Performance caught the attention of the school’s Linkage Coordinator Bob Ivory. Impressed with their talent, Bob Ivory introduced the duo to the legendary Cleveland music producer Edward “Phatty” Banks. The two participated after school along with some high school students to record a song called “I Promise.
