Next up on the Fast Forward Audio Series, we present: Hitam

Championing a dancefloor sound as ebulliently driving as it invites us to dip our toes into further hazy sonic grounds, Dutch producer, Rhiza Semar founder and Eerste Communie resident Hitam swings the pendulum betwixt racing 909-fuelled horsepower and more subdued, fearsome climates.

By combining organic and artificial sound sources with ancient and modern approaches to patterns and structure, he sees his productions as a means to reconnect the past and present; guiding the listener through aural fields that are both familiar and unknown.
As ever clinical in his approach and deadly in his execution, Hitam has us tripping out to relentless tech rage and hypnotic sound design laced into one smoldering hodgepodge of whelming, non-stop gusty sonics.

The dynamic and ethereal characteristics of his sound invoke a state of contemplation and receptiveness, by means of which one is invited to form a deeper connection within and between. Mind and body; self and other.

Breaking in our waves with a special two-hour round of genre-busting floor hoodoo, here comes Luxemburg-via-Germany’s one and only Ogazón. Nimbly walking the tightrope between sensuous house folds and more rugged, up-for-the-jugular techno on a deep, dubby tip, Ogazón treats us to a high-end vinyl workout flush with immersive, cinematic motion and proper low-slung club-oriented extrapolations. The result is a mix that swings the pendulum between sheer blazing functionality and an escapist mindset, sparking off the inextinguible will to go out and rave your night away from the daily hassle, and you can trust Ogazón for she certainly knows how to teleport dancers to a whole cozier, comely dimension in the twinkling of an eye. Responsible for a handful of head-turning releases via the likes of MORD, Hayes and Float Records this past couple of years, on-the-rise techno producer Mathys Lenne clocks in our series with a mindtrip that’ll knock your socks off. Championing a sound both deep-diving, rugged and hi-intensity thru and thru, the Frenchman treats us to a storm of steely firepower and post-apocalyptic brainwaves. His mix of cerebral wares and shape-shifting, industrial-informed machine talk takes us straight back to the heyday of raving, when the sound we all love was not just a merchandise, but meant a whole new perspective on the world as we knew it.

From Europe’s southern tip in the Gibraltar-facing port city of Algeciras comes ORBE, the Spanish techno enthusiast whose potent beats have hammered out a pedigree path both as DJ and producer. Prevailing winds carried Fernando Sanz first to Seville to study sound engineering, later to Madrid where the fertile scene allowed him to build a community of music-minded friends that have put that city squarely on the map. Under these conditions, his work (what he terms a means of ‘contacting the future, the avant-garde’) has developed into something much deeper and more sophisticated. His love of artists like Brian Eno and Boards of Canada, and roots in breakbeat and drum and bass have informed a style that’s allowed him to take up the mantle as one of Spain’s most interesting talents. Under his self-titled record label (est. 2014) come his signature killer tunes, and in his work with names like Eduardo de la Calle and labels like Token, Hivern Discs, Axis and Mote Evolver a pole position at the forefront of modern techno. Fresh off his set on the Bassiani floor (14th March) comes this next Bassiani mix. Tensile rhythms that lurch ahead with supernatural power, an involute web of intelligent sounds that attest to his skill as selector. Bassiani Podcast 254 is an hour-long mash up of elfin beats, a vibrating hymn to the sounds of tomorrow, Orbe at the top of his game.
