Debut release from Experiment 637.

Experiment 637 is an electronic / indie / folk two-piece band from the UK, and was formed around the same time that both members were experiencing break-ups - in one case the abrupt end of a previous band, the other the end of a personal relationship.

Determined and focused on doing something positive, the friends began writing in the summer of 2019, and managed to play just one gig together that November before the pandemic put the brakes on their plans to continue writing together. However, over the following two years in short and intense bursts of collaboration between lockdowns, the duo completed their debut album ’Sleepwater' in late 2021 and are set to release this in September 2022.

Mickey tells us about the debut single:

"Plains was written and recorded in a day when we were finally able to get together during a gap between lockdowns. I awoke to beautiful sunshine and sketched out the basic idea on piano. Ronan came over mid-morning and we took the idea into our little studio. We tried (and failed!) at a Flaming Lips ‘Race For The Prize’ approach, settling on something more dreamy, glitchy and reminiscent of Beta Band or ‘Elephant Eyelash’ period Why?.

After recording the instruments, Ronan jammed out the lyrics on the sofa before heading towards ‘the good microphone’, nailing it in two takes. We added a bell, some low-budget orchestral stuff, drank wine and mixed it the next morning". 

Ronan added, "After almost 6 months of not being able to be in the same room together, this was a day that we won’t easily forget".

The Underdog Project - Remember

I dreamt this song about a year ago while in Germany playing keyboards for the Reggae Artist Black Prophet. The trip was long and hot and just as I lay down to rest this came into my head. In the dream one of my daughters was walking along the platform of a train station, and I walked alongside her but on the other side of a transparent partition. The sound was of a ukelele so I went to Coventry, UK to buy one from Facebook Marketplace (should've asked for a discount!). Anyway, its taken me just over a year to build up enough equipment to record this edition. I got a Rode NT2a from Amazon and a beautiful pair of AKG K450 headphones which show up every little detail of music. I recorded this on an iPhone 8 plus and Roland Go Mixer Pro. Great set-up, both quick and easy to carry. Just can't get  multimic setup with it! The art work is all done by me, its not finished yet. I did loads more work on the eye (which is my youngest daughters) but I seem to have misplaced it when I switched laptops. Will have to rework it. Thanks for listening. 
Next track coming is called "That Feeling". I've got the music recorded but as of yet haven't defined the lyrics. Thanks for reading

This song began from a poem that I was writing. When I write and sing my music, my intention is to create immersive little universes. I love to experience moments deeply and I want my audience to get transported to another place through my songs.

"The Places You'll Go", an EP about discovery, new feelings and sensations...
I wanted to show you what happened to me when I discovered the Handpan and finally started playing the first notes: I was instantly teleported into another dimension, a different World and Universe, a place made of dreams, emotions and beauty where everything speaks the universal language of music.
This is why I called my debut EP in this way: we don't know yet which are the places we will go but the discovery and the journey are, most of the times, more important than the destination.
