First up is Leftback Records' resident Chris Boardman, to kick off Alter Hours' fresh new mix series, ahead of his return to play for Alter Hour in May. Chris is a long time friend of Alter Hour and has influenced my own taste as a DJ, happily sharing his knowledge and music collection when I had just started learning to DJ myself. I knew I could rely on Chris to set off the mix series in a direction I'd like it to continue, and he certainly hasn't disappointed. 

"With this mix I started off dubby and then went more minimal and techy, basically what ya would get on a leftback night from me" - So here's a taste of a Leftback event and the roll he plays, often warming the parties up.

Leftback Records is run by Michael Mclardy and Dudley Strangeways, two excellent producers who have been putting out a huge amount of great material, really making an impact and getting big recognition in the scene.

Waaay back in 2014, TV (aka Tom Vine) debuted his Shalama EP to great response. Now three years later one of the EP's tracks, "Disco Scene" gets re-released with remixes. Luke Solomun is up first with seven minutes of delirious French-Touch style disco loops, complete with jazzy keys and hypnotic vocal snippets. If the repetition of that version drives you a bit, well, loopy, check out label bosses Yam Who? who deliver a solid, thumping disco-house workout. The original is also on here too, a smooth and mellow funky roller as good as any of the other mixes.

Miami native and Los Angeles DJ and producer Nala is staying busy this July with her unique approach to an alternative EP release.
Releasing one track per week, Nala aims to give each track a special spotlight to be heard on its own. Like her DJ style, Nala's productions vary across the board ranging from heavier electro sounds to the delicate and deep. She dives headfirst into the latter on her latest release 'Kyxuito' with fellow producer TUFF GHOST, a dusky, echoing track that waits to deliver a perfectly timed punch of techno-inspired kicks.
'Kyxuito' will be out on July 13.
