Yee Nahgloshii or skin-walker was the term used by Navajo Indians to describe a witch who had the ability to transform into an animal.

Seventy-Four is a work for violin and live electronics written in 2018. Knowing that in Nazi Germany, the Gestapo would eventually show up, Fanny Hecht, a German jew, asked her neighbor to keep her violin for her until she returned. Over the next 74 years, the violin was passed down through three generations of the Dutch family. With none of the Hecht family surviving the Holocaust the Violins of Hope project restored the violin for it to be played on in concert. The piece utilizes variable delay built in Supercollider.

Zinnia is a piece for tuba and live electronics composed in the spring of 2018. Zinnias are popular garden flowers because they come in a wide range of flower colors and shapes. This work takes the sound of recorded tuba and manipulates it in ways that change the timbers and colors, mimicking the natural variety of zinnias in the wild. Zinnia was realized through Pure Data and Logic Pro X.

Halcyon is a work written for the SPARTA Quartet in the Spring of 2019. Halcyon Days are the seven days of winter where storms do not occur. These days are said to have found their origin in the tale of Alcyon and Ceyx, a couple with love so pure that it led to their downfall. The couple would refer to themselves as Zeus and Hera, which angered the gods and eventually lead to Zeus striking down Ceyx while he was out at sea with a thunderbolt. Upon Zeus delivery of the news, Alycon threw herself into the sea and drowned in order to join Ceyx. It is said that the couple was turned into halcyon birds by the gods. Alycon’s father Aeolus, king of the winds, calmed the sea for seven days in honor of the fallen couple so that the eggs laid by the halcyon birds would be protected.

Delphinium is a genus of flowers with about 300 known species. They grow in ever-changing combinations of colors with height varying from 2 to 6 feet and single or double blooms. While all known delphinium are poisonous to humans they are admired for being beautiful and statuesque. Delphinium for percussion ensemble and electronics was written for the McCormick Percussion Group in the Fall of 2019. The work was written for a percussion ensemble that utilizes metallic percussion instruments and a fixed-media playback part. Delphinium focuses on slow-morphing kaleidoscopic textures and timbres growing the way the flowers develop naturally in lush variety. The electronics for the work were realized entirely from recordings of percussion instruments in Logic Pro X and Pure Data.

Chace Williams (b. 1996) is an active composer and audio engineer currently residing in Bowling Green, Ohio. His music has been performed throughout the United States as well as internationally in China, Hong Kong, and Romania. Chace’s primary focus is electroacoustic music, combining and processing the sounds of live instruments with their digitally manipulated counterparts. His output covers a wide range of styles and mediums, from acoustic solo, chamber, and large ensemble works to electronic works. 

Chace has written for ensembles such as the National Repertory Orchestra, String Noise, Quasar, Strings and Hammers, and the Mosaic Trio. He is currently the 2019 Production and Recording Fellow for the National Repertory Orchestra where he was commissioned to write a fanfare as part of the Bravo! Vail Music Festival. Recently, Chace completed a residency at the Xi’an Liangjiatan International School in Xi’an, China. His works have been published on multiple labels including Zinnia for tuba and live electronics on the SEAMUS 2017-18 Interactions CD and Electric Screwdriver for marimba and fixed media on the percussion CD Onyinyo. 

Chace’s work Spurge for piano and electronics was presented at the SEAMUS 2019 National Conference at the Berklee College of Music and Boston Conservatory as well as being the selected winner for Eunmi Ko’s Tributes to Isang Yun. In 2018, He was a featured composer on the Hyperbolic Chamber Music’s New Music Master Work series. Chace was also a selected composer of the Black Sheep Contemporary Ensembles call for scores for his co-composed piece ‘Tuvan’. He attended SPLICE Institute 2016 and 2017 as a participant composer. 

Chace is currently pursuing a Master of Music degree in composition at Bowling Green State University under the tutelage of Elainie Lillios. He holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of South Florida where he studied with Baljinder Sekhon. Chace is a member of ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers). His works are published exclusively by Ciccarello Publications.
