You may have come across John over lockdown if you saw the excellent short Netflix film, ‘John was trying to contact Aliens’. If you haven’t seen it we definitely recommend checking it out.

Long story short, and it is a long story indeed spanning over three decades, John learnt how to build powerful high voltage transmitters that could broadcast radio signals into space. He then set up a DJ studio and played music over the rig with the hope that someone out there was listening.

The name for the project was S.T.R.A.T, which stood for Special Telemetry Research and Tracking and the radio shows were broadcast from Earth Station One.

John Shepherd had become the world’s first cosmic DJ.

Born in Palermo, but based in Berlin, DJ SCM is a serious part of the new wave of Italian producers such as Nu Guinea, Pellegrino, Whodamanny, Ed Longo, just to name a few, which successfully brought the sound of the iconic funk and disco scene from Italy that was created in the 70s and 80s of the last century.
His eclectic selection gathers a wide range of Balearic electronica, forgotten and organic synth-funk, Italo disco, and its cosmic variations from the 80s, as lots of tropical and afro influenced boogie and proto-house music.

Chad Mitchell’s dance music roots began in the underground culture of NYC. In ’92 he moved west to Buffalo, where he brought his influence and experience to the local music scene. In ’94, he and JP Soul began hosting parties and Djing in the dance music scene in Western New York. 
In Buffalo, he along with JP Soul held a residency for 2 years at the first weekly house music club in the area. Along with his residency, he co-hosted many large-scale events in Upstate New York. His notoriety spread and led to bookings North to Toronto as well as deep into Ohio and throughout Western NY. 

After gaining his Bachelor of Science from the University of Buffalo, he went west to San Francisco. Chad accepted a residency at Liquid, one of SF’s infamous nightspots where he rocked the decks every Friday night for almost 5 years. In addition to playing throughout San Francisco, he has also traveled to play in US cities such as Chicago, Seattle, and San Diego as well as internationally in Vancouver, BC and Mexico. 
In San Francisco, Chad Mitchell founded Roam Recordings. He and JP Soul run this local record label to further promote their sound by publishing their original works as well as their peers’. Roam Recordings has featured releases from such world-renowned artists as Justin Martin, Lance Desardi, Tasho, Demarkus Lewis, Rhythm Plate and Brett Johnson.

Chad Mitchell has had original works released on Roam Recordings as well as on Republika, G-Deep and MDEX.Chad has also released a variety of mix’s, with a wide range of styles.You can check some of them out here on Soundcloud.
