Debut Single 'The Village People' by Gyerphage Released on Chalkpit Records (2017)

Gyerphage - The Village People

‘Hide’ presents a new avenue for their music, a dreamy but illuminating track with a biting grip of indie-rock tones. Citing the influence of bands such as Beach House and Tame Impala the band included an array of 80’s styled synths and a gentler more direct vocal performance than previous releases. The song’s meaning is simple but touching. 

It illustrates an ever-changing love story that is told in parallel with Charlie’s intimate lyrics and the rich instrumental of driving bass melodies and elative guitar lines for a well-rounded indie-pop track. Recorded at Isle of Wight studio Red Squirrel, the track is coloured with analogue tones, and delicate production that can be found on records by other bands such as The Bees and Fenne Lily. Although using a studio is a new departure from their DIY ventures of the past, the band co-produced and mixed the track both at home and in the studio. A music video for Hide will coincide with the single launch, offering a deeper look into the themes and character of the track.

The tautness and execution of the record represents the suffocating aspects of a toxic relationship, and as the band describe it: ‘someone that sucks the life out of you’. ‘Leech’ has a muscular, gripping sound which is gloriously gnarly delivered with stylistic execution. The record captures their unique fusion of sounds that makes the Isle of Wight band so exciting; the production and performance of the record allows them to harness such a sound that drips into our eardrums like liquid gold. With it only being their second single, Leech leaves us waiting impatiently for more."
