JAPAU has found his way into our playlist in early 2021 by leaving a cheeky comment on a WNDRLST set. Since then, he has dominated our playlist, and his mad sets have given structure to our long workdays. He was the first artist we heard that managed 150 bpm or more without sounding like a lunatic at the peak of his amphetamine binge. His label PA•RA•DO•XON 030, was one of the first we reached out to, and we are thrilled that he has agreed to contribute to our project. He will be part of the first event in a series that we have planned. We would also like to thank him for always being there for us when we have technical questions, treating us with kindness, and embracing our madness. JAPAU

Let yourself be carried away by the dark, industrial techno of the 28-year old Berliner Japau. His track record was consolidated relatively early on when he accidentally ended up at a dark party at Berlin's “Arena Club” in 2013. Since then, techno has been an intergral part of his life and he can't imagine life without it. Late he started then in July 2019 with his best friend Alex (Odar) DJ'ing, their first Controller was a Pioneer DDJ-400. Since then the story started for Japau, he was directly infected. Japau's style is characterized by driving, pushing basses and hard kicks in industrial sound.

You can expect an audiophile listening pleasure in the dB limit range!

CSQ: Tell us a bit about your local techno scene. How has it shaped you as an artist?

ZORN: Our local techno and DJ scene is based more on hard techno and vocal trance. There are only a few DJs and events in the Industrial/Bochka area, but they stick together. An example of this are snutsch and Ziviler Ungehorsam as well as the event "Smallroom" at Forum Bielefeld. The sound of snutsch and Ziviler Ungehorsam and Tituz (from Berlin) inspired me to start making music too.

CSQ: Would you like to share anything with the listeners about the set?

ZORN: My set describes the ultimate ZORN sound: Fast, dark and driving

CSQ: How does the set reflect the development of your style and your DJing since you started?

ZORN: My goal from the beginning was to reflect my sound exactly as in this set. I started DJing in January and since then, with incredible support from snutsch and Ziviler Ungehorsam, I've steadily improved my technique and track selection. Through my good friend Body Identification I have also trained my ear even more by teaching me the techniques of playing on vinyl.
