Commissioned by Chamber Cartel, Chicago composer Drew Baker wrote this piece with inspiration from Jean-Michel Basquiat's work of the same title. This piece was premiered at the Goat Farm Arts Center in March of 2013.

Iris

The Shape Distance [1-7] is a set of pieces written by Marc Yeats and commissioned by Chamber Cartel. The piece is scored for two flutes, clarinet, viola, harp, piano, and percussion. All instrumental parts in the piece are unsynchronized so any moments of fortune that happen in the music are unique to that performance. The Shape Distance 11 was inevitable. Amy O'Dell, our pianist, and Connor Way, our harpist played so well together we had to record it.

The Shape Distance is a collection of pieces akin to Russian nesting dolls. The Shape Distance 7 is scored for two flutes, clarinet, viola, harp, piano, and percussion. The piece was composed by Marc Yeats for Chamber Cartel in 2013.

The Shape Distance 7

This is the premiere performance of "...But I'm Doing it Anyway" by Aaron Jay Myers. The piece was written for Chamber Cartel. Aaron is a Boston-based composer and Executive Director for the Equilibrium Concert Series in Boston.

...But I'm Doing It Anyway

Bas-relief sculptures allow multiple vantage points without distorting the subject's image. The shadows created by changing lighting conditions will also emphasize or hide different aspects of the work. Figures in Bas-Relief works in a similar manner, except that changing lighting conditions are exchanged for changing instrumentation. This piece is a series of chords based upon frequency analyses of gongs. Each of the chords are extended for some time, but the instruments in the ensemble are continually exchanging pitches and are playing independently of each other, creating a somewhat hazy and unfinished impression of the chords.

Chamber Cartel is an adventurous band of musicians seeking to propagate the avant-garde, experimental and New Music in and around the South east. We performed 12 concerts in our first season from which highlights include  - Crippled Symmetry, For Philip Guston, Why Patterns?, Inuksuit, songbirdsongs, Dressur, an entire John Cage festival, and Cobra to name a few.
