Into the Zone was inspired by the Russian sci-fi book "Roadside Picnic" and the subsequent film "Stalker". The core premise is that aliens land on earth and after a few days take off again. No one sees them or has any contact. But they leave behind in the "zones" mysterious artifacts that appear "magic". As the book says it's as if ants discover the remains of a roadside picnic.

The track is almost entirely Wiard 300 and 1200 series. There are some processed nature recordings at the start and some unprocessed ones at the end and one of the multitracked lines within the lead is from an Oberheim Matrix 1000 but it's in with another 4 or five layers of that lead line from the Wiard. There is a fair amount of phasing going on, mainly using a Moogerfooger. One of the things in the book is that stalkers need to watch out for "mosquito mange" - invisible pockets of very high gravity - I used an old MXR Pitch Transposer with a high regeneration level to add various unpredictably warped sounds. The track ends with the sound of a stream, birds and the wind blowing through leaves. Nature always wins out. Over man or even super advanced aliens.

Timbre Modulation Mode on the Wiard Waveform City. First recording is as per the manual, starting with Wave 0 - sweeping the volume up, then down and then moving onto the next wave. At low volumes it tends to be very noisy but it helps you to hear when I've moved to another wave. 
The second recording sets volume at a sensible level but modifies the volume via the VCA Env in on the Waveform City controlled by an envelator. I used wave 0, 4, 8, 12 and 15.

There are NO filters involved, this is the action of the Bank 14 Timbre Modulaor mode on a sine wave.

control resonance on each note by using a second sequantiser (quantize output) into Q control. Send sine from oscillator to “linear” to FM the filter oscillations. Ad 1 volt/octave and also slow LFO into FC.

Wiard - Omni Filter - linear FM

Beyond was built out of a Wiard 300 series patch which uses tail chasing to set off 4 independent voices. That was recorded and a second run through slightly tweaked was added. Apart from the Wiard 300 I think one voice got routed through a MOTM Ladder filter. 
There are a few staccato sounds which came from a vocoder (using the Wiard 300 as the carier) but the sustained groans and vocal sweeps are from the Waveform City - using the piano and mellotron banks rather than Bank 8.
