1-Day Beat 9/23/21

Core Concepts
-rhythms and textures inspired by Emerald Rush by Jon Hopkins
-use of chromatic mediants to give chord progression momentum

Made the entire song into the jankiest pitch plug-in and then turned it off before exporting. Something about the effect chain on the main synth made this an incredible challenge to export. Every time I did, it didn't sound the way it should in-DAW. Required me resampling the entire length of the song into a new track. First time making a track with only synths in probably a year at least... All the new music is built on this ideological hill I'll die on of, "making synths out of human elements", whether that be guitar, bass, or my voice. So it was fun to just let go and make a silly little song in the box again. Also, how good is Drawmer S73? That thing breathed so much life into the track.

My favorite track I never finished. This track is over 3 years old now. I fucking looooove this chord progression so much, it was such a travesty I could never get the mix right. I've pulled the MIDI from this song and started 2 new songs I never finished with exact same chord progression. Maybe it is a cursed progression... I recorded horny vocals for the whole track but they were unsurprisingly ~cringe~ so I've uploaded an older bounce without them for both of our sakes. Free download. Record something over it. Oklou - unearth me Remix/Cover Thing

I was looking for a different project today in my private SC uploads and found this. It's a little beat I'd made the summer of 2019, right after I'd graduated from college. One of my best friends and an old roommate of mine were going to try and work on it together. He'd always come back from the bars drunk and barge into my room with a group of people wanting to sing while I played guitar. I pretended to be annoyed but was always glad to have the energy and company. We thought it would be fun to try and make something together intentionally (he's a great pianist and vocalist) and this was the starting point. Nothing ever came of it but every now and then I'll stumble upon this and think about how excited I was when I'd first made it. I titled it after him during that first session and always think of him when I hear it now, despite it not having any of the words he'd written to it. He and I don't talk that much anymore. Maintaining relationships is a lot harder when you're not a couple rooms away. He's one of those people you know will always be one of your best friends even if you don't talk for years. But still, it is sad to think about how things have changed. 

I went to upload it here and found a bounce of an intro section that didn't fit the vibe of this section at all. I love it and it sounds much more in line with the stuff I'm making now. Maybe I can write a song about friends over it. That would be sweet, I think.

Our final project for Logic 1 required us to create a track around some vocals we were given. I started it the night before it was due and made it halfway through before realizing that this sucked an incalculable amount of dick. So I downloaded the MIDI for Fireflies and the rest is history. I got to play it in front of the class the last day of the semester. Our teacher gave me a 100 on the spot while everyone clapped and the hottest girl in class went down on me.
