Fast rising House Producer & DJ Kristone (UK) returns to Champion Records’ sub-label Cheeky Trax with the sizzling ‘Won’t Give Up’, featuring Medusa’s stunningly powerful vocal, released on 19 November. 

Following his celebrated release earlier in 2021 on Cheeky Trax ‘Coming Strong’, ‘Won’t Give Up’ features Kristone’s signature style of vibrant piano house, tribal drumming, and stabbing synths all deployed brilliantly alongside Medusa’s hypnotic vocal to produce a deep and anthemic floor-filler. 

Kristone (UK) says: "Won’t Give Up was started back in 2020. I had the idea for the track, but it was just missing that killer vocal. I had been a big fan of Medusa’s work for ages, so it was absolutely unreal that we were able to come together and after that first session, I knew her voice was going to be perfect for the track. The track itself had seen a few different vibes along the way, but it was the blend of Medusa’s vocal and the piano that just sat so well. In a rough year that 2020 was, I wanted something a little different from this project but also something with my familiar sound and I think we nailed it. 

Based in NW England, Kristone has previously released on Toolroom Records, Deep Tech Los Angeles Records and High Pressure Music, amassing impressive support from Mark Knight, Danny Tenaglia, D.Ramirez, TCTS, Riva Starr, Friend Within, and Redux Saints. It’s undeniable that the future looks bright for Kristone!

In 1985 Champion hired its first employee, an 18 year old named Paul Oakenfold who had been working as messenger boy in New York. Champion Records aimed at releasing underground club tunes, Hip Hop, Rare Grooves, Jazz & Soul tracks as well as uplifting House tunes on 12” vinyl originally found and licensed from the USA. Tunes like Spank ‘Oh Baby’, Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince ‘Girls Ain’t Nothin’ But Trouble’, Salt ‘N Pepa ‘Push it’ & Rene & Angela ‘Secret Rendezvous’.

As musical taste evolved Champion aligned itself with the early house and garage movement. It produced iconic tracks including Raze’s ‘Break 4 Love’, Robin S ‘Show Me Love’, Sandy B ‘Make The World Go Round’, Kristine W ‘Feel What You Want’ & Sybil ‘Don’t Make me Over’. These then turned into some of the most famous & credible artists in the world along with DJ’s like Todd Terry, Kerri Chandler, Junior Vasquez and Stonebridge.
