This is a track that I did for the student film "The Fast One." This was meant to be one of the character's theme song. The character was a retired con man played by Brad Maule who frequently appeared in a cafe with a brick wall, hence the name.

Program notes: Titanopterans for fixed media was composed as a special collaboration project at Stephen F. Austin State University between the School of Music and the Department of Biology. For the project, I partnered up with entomologist Dr. Daniel Bennett, who exposed me to numerous topics in his field. The subject that caught my interest the most was an article over Clatrotitan Andersoni of the Titanoptera order of insects, an extinct order of insects that thrived during the Triassic Period. This particular specimen would have had a wing span of approximately 16 inches and had special stridulatory structures that would have made a very loud noise when rubbed together, a sound very similar to modern day cicadas… but much, much deeper. My imagination went wild as I tried to think of what sounds these creatures would have made and what it would have been like to walk through an ancient rainforest infested with insects of such an intimidating size and bellow. And so the art I created based on these inspirations was a combination of soundscape and minimalism. I wanted to create an ambient atmosphere that told a story while presenting the listener with “traditional” musical material. I utilized many recordings of modern day insects and manipulated them in a way that I felt would make a compelling composition. Trio for Piano, Clarinet, and Violin

Program Notes: Different Winds was composed for a composition competition in 2015. The competition allotted a two-week time period for the work to be written and submitted, so emphasis was placed on the ability to compose quickly. It is a trio composed in theme and variation form, each variation symbolizing the wind that passes through a different region of the world. If zephyrs were sentient beings, what might they encounter on their journey to and fro the places on the globe?

Piece for 3-piece instrumental metal band & percussion trio

Program notes: For Omega Machina, I drew inspiration from a surprising number of sources. I first got the idea of “the last machine” from watching Tim Burton’s animated feature, “9,” which features the last machine in existence, an instrument of death that scorched the Earth and killed all of the planet’s inhabitants. With that concrete idea in mind, I also drew on these dark motifs by listening to the bleak yet brilliant atmospheres of Nine Inch Nails’ “Downward Spiral” album, one of the most compelling industrial albums of the genre. However, I wanted to do more than emulate these ideas with this piece of music. I wanted to write something that comprised my collective background as a musician – to capture the experiences I’ve had as a rock/pop musician and combine them with the musical prowess I’ve gained from my academic endeavors. In short, the result combined elements from the following genres: film score, industrial, groove metal, progressive rock, and contemporary percussion ensemble music.

Folk Song for Three Voices

Program Notes:

Sing No More is actually my very first ballad – that is, the first song I’ve ever written that actually tells a story. It was written with Celtic influences in mind; although it is not meant do directly emulate Irish folk music or forms. I wrote this as a birthday present for a very dear friend mine, who is quite partial to melancholy folk tunes. The song’s story tells of a young engaged couple in love, but whose vows could never be completed. Told from the perspective of the wife to be, she narrates the story as the tragedy unfolds…

I made this in only a couple of hours, just to get something out in time for Christmas. It's a little bit of a different take on Christmas music.

Hi everyone! I just finished up my bachelor's degree in music composition (graduated Magna Cum Laude!), and am currently attending grad school in pursuit of a theory/composition dual degree. My love for music has driven me to write in a variety of genres, including rock/metal, folk, jazz,  classical, electronic, and video game/film score, so hopefully you will find something to your liking!
