Many times people have told me how much they just can't stand reggaeton. That omnipresent style build on the golden dem-bow rhythm that has gone on to conquer the world, Bad Bunny and beyond. 

But, beyond the mainstream (which goes for any music) there is something incredible about that simple rhythm. Following on from my last EP Tón Tón I thought I would see what happened if I tried to make a mixtape of "dem-bow" music which has absolutely nothing to do with dem-bow music. 

This mix is a juxtaposition of styles and sounds m(think Aphex Twin meets Ayra Starr meets Baiuca meets Âme...some dub techno, some Moroccan gnawa, some Ana Tijoux...)but all tied together by the thread of a dem-bow rhythm.

El Búho - Tón Tón, A Dem-Bow Mixtape

The first single from Ayni, El Búho’s exciting new collaboration series, brings together the British producer and Spanish vocalist Alex Serra in a long-awaited, harmonious collaboration. Both artists share a deep-rooted connection to nature, spirituality, and a fusion of electronic and acoustic sounds. The duo first crossed paths performing in Hamburg, and their mutual admiration blossomed into this project. It began when El Búho sent a rough dub idea, inspiring Alex to write and add his captivating lyrics. After several creative exchanges, the track was polished with masterful dub mixing from Serra’s long-term collaborator, Toti Dub.

This track is a rich slice of deep-dub, reminiscent of Rhythm & Sound, with Serra’s hauntingly beautiful vocals floating effortlessly above Perkins’ meticulously crafted organic dub production. Layered with horns, bird calls, sparkling hi-hats, and drenched in warm reverb and delay, the song captures the essence of a misty dawn over Central America’s Pacific coast, where lush green mountains plunge into the crashing waves of the ocean.

El Búho & Alex Serra - Sierra Del Mar

Thornato returns to Wonderwheel with a reimagining of Mama Clo by David Satori (Beats Antique, Dirtwire). Originally rooted in sounds of the Pacific Coast of Colombia, Satori’s heavy Latin bass dub of Mama Clo showcases his genre-bending style giving the original a fresh new sound that’s sure to thaw you out for the dancefloor.

ZZK Records Presents Karen y Los Remedios “Plexo Lunar Barzo Remix”

Plexo Lunar Barzo Remix is the third single from the album "Silencio Remixes" by Karen y Los Remedios. 

Karen y Los Remedios, the Mexican band known for their unique blend of cumbia and downtempo music, brings an album of remixes. The group is fronted by Ana Karen Barajas, who is both a singer-songwriter, along with Jiony, a producer based in Mexico City, and guitarist Guillermo Berbeyer. Together, they create a distinctive sound that incorporates elements of cumbia, trip-hop, and subtle electronic details.

Their debut album, Silencio, was released on September 8, 2023. Now, they have collaborated with a group of artists from different nationalities and various musical genres for this remix album. 

Representing Costa Rica, Barzo delivers a downtempo track seamlessly weaving together traditional and electronic sounds.  The rhythmic pulse of Latin percussion and piano melodies provide a foundation for effortless dancing, while dynamic vocals enhance the transitions between the track's breakdowns and drops.
