It’s done. K.O. 
The stickiness kreeps out of the studio window. All inspiration is bundled. What stays is the trash on the carpet, the coffee cups and a last sunbeam, which is entering the scene on that late summer day. Two guys knocking with theirs feet on the floor. You see them smile. The first album of Kollektiv Ost is ready to enter the club.

We are listening to 12 tracks filled with emotions and with a wide view on electronic music. All songs are fun and straddle a few genres without sounding cheap. “K.O.“ is like a perfect soundtrack, starting with wild and deep claps in “Shanti“, switching to a melodic “Slow Me Down“, breaking the silence with a tech number like „ Da Thong“. Everything is in a flow, the vocals are sparely but on the right point.

German based Sandro Schäufler and Marcel Schulz used the energy from two different worlds to bring on that album, which is simply fresh. One of them lives in the capital of Techno, in a crazy and loud world, where music is like a pulse rate - Berlin. Meanwhile Sandro stays in his native country with a view on lakes, trees, untouched nature and many moments of total silence. And that is, what you are hearing in songs like „Winter Game“ or „Not Yet“. It is a mixture of influences, well balanced and gently brought to the peak.

First of all, let’s clean up. Close the window, take your time. Go out, find your way into the club. Breath in deeply and then, come with us into a world full of synthetic lights and timeless moments. Have a look on the stage, where two guys knocking with theirs feet on the floor. You see them smile. “K.O.“- It’s done.

With a career spanning over 20 years, DJ Mitsu the Beats has earned a notorious reputation amongst the underground Hip-Hip community as a masterful turntablist and serial beatmaker, widely hailed as the Japanese incarnation of Pete Rock, DJ Premier and J Dilla! With such high accolades amongst his peers, its no surprise that Mitsu is well versed in the sample game, and his his solo productions and work alongside the Japanese Hip-Hop collective GAGLE are all examples of a superhuman ability to select and mix rare, soulful grooves with absolute precision. More recently, Mitsu delivered a Boiler Room set unlike no other where he dropped a wonderfully eclectic collection of records, moving from warped, downtempo Beats to upbeat House james with effortless style.

Released last Friday (19th December), his latest collection of Beat Installments is further evidence of this, paying homage to the Fender Rhodes Piano which has served an essential role in the progression of Jazz, Soul and Hip-Hop over the last half a century. On Beat Installments Vol. 3, he delivers a collection of warm, summery melodies and finely crafted beats underpinned by that airy, effortless style only achieved by a man on the top of his game.

On Hyp 252, Mitsu digs deep into his record collection and offers up a killer 1hr live recording of his characteristically smooth turntable work. Its pretty amazing how easily he seems to transition from genre to genre and this mix is a great example of that. Check out the swift transfer at 13:50 which bounces from offbeat Jazz to in the pocket Funk in a matter of seconds. Mad skills.

Panthera Krause's music-making habits teeter on the precipice between moody and outright fun house; a technique which has done wonders for the Leipzig melody maker since his early years. The mould was set with his weekly podcasts and 2012's "Cassandra" on local imprint O*RS. Then further solidified via the Yorikke EP in 2013 - a three-track mid-summer trip on Riotvan - and the delights of his Rules EP (2014) on Lobster Theremin and the Laika EP (2014) on Riotvan.

The Uncanny Valley connection was established during the back end of last year. The pumping “Coochie” formed part of the Uncanny Valley: Five Years On Parole release and was quite the foretaste. And here we arrive at "Umami"; a lesson in colourful and let-loose four-to-the-floor which first saw light on our recent Dresden show with the UV fam.

Leave your preconceptions behind because Ital Tek’s brilliant new album ‘Hollowed‘ is his best and most rewarding yet. Created from new beginnings, it's a journey through the naïve exploratory methods with which Alan Myson started to make music over a decade ago. The record is dark and maximalist but at the same time the huge sounds are minutely detailed and elegantly rendered.

Cutting himself off in a new studio at the start of 2014, Alan experimented and worked out the core sounds of the album by going back to the techniques he started with: "when I was 15 I would make endless minidiscs with my guitar and effects. With this record I bought the guitar I wanted back then and hit record, creating hours of drones, loops and textures. I wanted to make the album that was in my head when I was 14 but I had no idea how to".

With ‘Hollowed‘ Ital Tek gone far beyond his earlier more dance-genre based work, leaving just the footprint and especially the sonic weight and space of dubstep. But the sound here is designed from the ground up and carved into something much more abstract, impressionistic and elegant. As Alan puts it "I'm moving away from dance music and letting sound inhabit a space without shoving everything at the listener in the first few bars". One of the biggest musical experiences that left an impression on him while recording this album was hearing "Henryk Gorecki’s Symphony No 3’ being played live, starting very small and soaring, then returning to stillness…" It was this that made him think about reassembling his approach to making music

Italy via Shanghai is the route taken for the debut E.P of Neapolitan producer Altieri, aka Eugenio Altieri. A designer living in Shanghai, Eugenio started to make music back in 2004, mixing music and visuals to create his “weirdo production” sessions. After traveling east he founded the DesToys duo, a live project that channelled space disco and 80s commercial music.

Edo is a personal view over the modern Asia, Japan in this case. Inspired by the street sounds and bugged out day to day world of Tokyo his debut EP is four tracks of slippery head music. Chiseled from the deep seams of an intergalactic mine and informed by the dark heart of house and no wave disco this is club music from the oily underbelly.
