This record highlights the Secret Boyfriend that obscures didacticism by highlighting output that opens up for more challenging catharsis and emotive signal processing. It provides an entry to the materialism of a cultural field full of ecstatic complexity and beautiful inconsistency. In these muted moments Secret Boyfriend has given us over his career we have an argument for evolving languages that further challenge our notions of what is supposed to happen and how it is supposed to be presented. In his more song oriented expansiveness, we can punctuate the ability to think in new modalities. Listening to these recordings reminds me of the polarity of sitting in the record store as a kid and understanding that His Name Is Alive is on 4AD and (gasp!) timeSTEREO. This trite early impression that nothing is really as different as our imaginations might want them to be, and that we can do whatever we want mostly within the creative realms we work through is an important filter to look through Secret Boyfriend as a project and a vessel. If we can achieve abandon and vulnerability through our artistic endeavors, then we have a sound model for, 𝗺𝗮𝘆𝗯𝗲, new potentialities. If that’s too much projection, or just complete liberal bullshit, I am fine with that. Secret Boyfriend's oeuvre at best offers us moments of reprieve to ponder these complexities, or at least a moment to zone out on a drive through North Carolina Highway 54.

You have one pocket of life that you must do whatever you want to inside of. Secret Boyfriend does it affectionately, in a variety of forms, and always with deep sentimentality. These recordings are a wonderful set of songs to begin further investigation from. Thank you Ryan for allowing as many avenues as possible to continue a broad cultural exchange and conversation that intersect and refract while being the kind of artist that is brave enough to not phone in the effort.”

‘And Now You Stand Before The Sun’ is a culmination, a closing chapter of the journey that began with 2022’s ‘Like The Reformed’ and succeeded by last year’s ‘Oath (Soon The Storm Will Pass, And We Will Fly Again)’. The record sees Paavo Piekkari and Jonathan Engeldahl fleshing out the microcosm they call Hollowland, resulting in their most mature and fully realised work to date. Beyond the rapturous sonics, there is a deep melancholy woven into the very essence of Hollowland that is present through it all.

At its core the record is about the hope that anguish and sorrow will lead to something beautiful and pure, persistance shed of the often glorified scaly skin of martyrdom. Notions of departing from oneself, to be reborn and catch a glimpse of the coveted silver lining, are explored on tracks such as ‘Ov Your Own Image’, ‘Falls’ and ‘As You Stand Beneath It, The Light Burns Brighter Than Before’. On ‘In Open Arms’ and Purest Form’ the endless cycle reaches its inevitable conclusion of incarnation, chronicling the very moments of becoming. Consider it a sign of stillness, at least for now.

The passing storm won’t be the last, yet we embrace the fleeting moment of light beyond the clouds, using it to release all within.

New York, NY – Colle, the creative alias of experimental musician Maya McGrory, debuts her solo album 'Montalvo' on urtruimage.

Inspired by her childhood memories of Montalvo Rd., this compelling collection of songs offers a profound exploration of McGrory's past, and presents a narrative of multiple lives lived at once. The contrasting landscapes of her life provide a backdrop for her music, allowing her to find solace in the innocence and simplicity of childhood. Emphasising the ephemeral nature of life, she embraces a flow that reflects the worries of her past and the allure of even the harshest conditions.

Her album invites listeners into immersive emotional landscapes; characterised by expansive glacial synths and strings, while trip-hop and shoegaze-inspired beats push her music into an experimental realm of electronic indie-rock, all enhanced by her sincere and captivating vocal delivery.

What began as a return to a specific time in her life evolved into a journey back to traditional songwriting, reimagined into an experimental vision during the production of Montalvo. For Colle, the process is less about distance and more about rediscovery—reclaiming the innocence and wonder that continue to influence her today.

Exploited Body takes it back to the club with their latest two-track offering 'Helix / Unravel' - a pairing, that meshes the intensity you've come to expect, with newfound high-speed break experimentations.

'Helix' is a spiralling fever dream, with drums of tungsten skitter through the blaring sirens and posessed screeches, showing no signs of slowing down. 'Unravel' is deliverance, release. Incorporeal voices echo through the cracks of the ferocious drums, eventually submitting to the soaring, euphoric synths signalling the escape from the cycle.

111X ‘Urge’

111X, the elusive prince of noise, returns to Changeless with his latest offering ‘Urge’.

Picking up where ’Shame’ left off, ‘Urge’ depicts the shift from collapse to confrontation, driven by the restless push-and-pull of one’s inner fire and crushing powerlessness. Compulsive resistance in the face of our inevitable fallibility. An ouroboros corporeal battle between necessity and yielding, vigour and weakness, progress and decay.

‘Urge’ is a reinvention of 111X’s signature harsh sonics, meshing it with brooding apocalyptic guitars and ephemeral fragile tranquility, with a familiar relentless weaving pulse at it’s core that’s all the more brutal with each return. The EP opens with ‘Avenge’, where the veil of monumental thrashing of fragmented rhythms slips for a brief moment that’s just long enough to catch a glimpse of the hurt behind it all. ‘Fragments Held Together By Pressure (Forgive)’ slows everything down to a halt, while soft melodies bleed through the noise like a memory echoing as it fades away, becoming more indistinct with every moment.

The EP’s turning point ‘Serrated Edge’ presents us with a completely new side of 111X; a meditative lullaby with bursts of noise that emerge throughout the track, meticulously designed to remain uneasy even in the softest moments. ‘Hunger / Wilt’ closes the record with it’s pounding drums and piercing feedback, before melting into a stunningly beautiful coda leaving us with more hope than when we had diving into ‘Urge’.

'Urge' will be released May 23rd via Changeless.

The brainchild of Helsinki-based experimentalist Nori Kin, Exploited Body is an audial paradox – where blistering distortion collides with delicate melody, and ethereal vocals oscillate between angelic lament and demonic invocation. Their music is a visceral experience, at once hypnotic and harrowing, luring listeners into a world of staggering emotional weight and sonic extremity.  

With releases on PAN, Posh Isolation, Northern Electronics, and their own imprint Changeless, Kin has steadily carved out a distinct presence in the contemporary experimental landscape. Their compositions stretch the boundaries of electronic music, fusing industrial abrasion, haunting atmospherics, and deeply personal narratives into something both intimate and overwhelming.
