Amadeus sees it’s catalog graced yet again by New Zealand outfit Chaos In The CBD. The kiwi brothers, birthed Ben & Louis Helliker-Hales, are no new faces to the label, or the wide variety of genre-bending acronyms they encompass. Having recently relocated from tropical Auckland to damp London earlier this year, the two take their productions along with them in their latest efforts, 816 To Nunhead.

Title track and aside, “816 To Nunhead,” is tinged with what’s left of summer. A nostalgic tune built for the sun and soaked in funk. It’s a track reminiscent of early french disco, almost as if built for the two robots themselves. Guitar plucks and hi hats flow seamlessly throughout the tune, aided by a glorifying vocal, “I would like to think of my music as just an extension, an extension of me of today or whatever.” 

What emotion of freedom and escape evoked on the Aside can be contrasted on the flip, “78 To Stanley Bay,” a tune built behind the ever looming theme of loneliness. Accompanied by a live trumpet courtesy of Isaac Aesili, ’78 To Stanley Bay’ tells us a story, or rather a journey, built behind dirty hats and delayed keys. This is a track fashioned for everywhere but the club, and we absolutely love that.

A Deeper Life…

After over a decade of making music, we’re finally releasing our debut album A Deeper Life on May 9th 2025, on our very own imprint In Dust We Trust.

What started as an idea in 2020, during a period of stagnation for us and so many others, grew into something that felt within reach. Demos were refined, and Beans was producing more music than ever. Then, as our intense touring schedule resumed, we never anticipated we’d find the time to complete the project.

This album has been a labor of love—it’s more than just an album for us. It’s a love letter to our home country New Zealand; to our bond as brothers, to our family and friends that have supported us since the start; and to the laid-back way of life that shaped who we are today. But it’s also a journey through the global sounds that we’ve fallen in love with over the years.

Today we’re dropping the first single from the album, Love Language, featuring our fellow Kiwi and regular collaborator, the legendary Nathan Haines, on saxophone. We poured so much of ourselves into this track, and we hope you can feel that when you hear it.

This is an immensely proud moment for Beans and I. Never in our wildest dreams could we have imagined that when we relocated to London from Auckland in 2012, not only would we one day release an album, but that it would turn into a full-time career, giving us the chance to travel the world and meet incredible people along the way. We owe so much of this success to those who have continued to support us, and we hope this musical offering excites you as much as it does us.

I Wanna Tell Somebody features the brilliant and unmistakable vocals of Josh Milan (celebrated for his work with the famed house production outfit Blaze). The Bossa-infused track was crafted and brought to life with the help of our friends Alex, Immanuel and Cenk—before Josh transformed it into a heartfelt love song ❤️

'Maintaining My Peace' is a collaboration with UK rapper/producer Novelist and US soulful house legend Stephanie Cooke—two artists we’ve long admired. Novelist was first introduced to our music through his mum, and after we reached out, he sent us a voice note from LA saying he was keen to link up as soon as he got back to London. You’ll hear that exact message at the very start of the track—a nod to the moment this journey began.
Not long after, Nov came by our studio and spent hours with Beans, deep in conversation about production techniques, life, and everything in between. That genuine exchange of energy and ideas directly influenced and shaped the lyrics Nov wrote that day—raw, reflective and grounded.
The track’s production pays homage to classic West Coast rap—we wanted that raw, laid-back, soulful feel. Once again, we brought in the talents of Immanuel Simelane on bass and Alex Cosmo Blake on guitar to help us capture that authentic G-funk texture. From the jump, it was clear the instrumental needed a voice like Nov’s and he floated over it effortlessly.
There was something missing however—we needed a hook and we knew exactly who we had in mind. After a long search, we finally managed to get in touch with one of our all-time favourite soulful house vocalists, Stephanie Cooke. To our surprise and excitement, she was totally down to be part of it. Her vocals brought exactly the warmth and emotion the track needed—she was the cherry on top.
The result is Maintaining My Peace, a smooth, heads down, introspective track that blends soul, self-reflection and that unmistakable West Coast influence.

Rhythm Section International proudly presents it’s 8th offering from local boys Chaos In The CBD. Born in New Zealand, but based in Peckham for the last few years (literally just around the corner from Henry Wu and Bradley Zero), these brothers have made a real mark on the scene here in London town and with their latest set of productions are set to take this message further afield. 

Having already released internationally on labels such as ClekClekBoom (Paris), Hot Haus (London) and Amadeus (Montreal), the duo’s approach to production has matured immeasurably in the last year, as is evident in the restrained potency and poetic subtlety on the 4 tracks across this accomplished EP, Midnight in Peckham. 

Taking it’s title from the locale the boys have come to know as home, the record channels a delicate late night energy - equally indebted to the hypnotic incantations of Ron Trent as it is to the hazy suburban atmospheres of Burial. These 4 classic cuts pay homage to deep house in it’s truest sense - at once sublime, melancholy and meditative. Chaos In The CBD have clearly taken their cue from the mid-west masters of the genre but have not been afraid to let their own influences and environs creep in, and in doing so have created something that is unmistakably London and in fact, timeless.
