Hyper-federalization is already happening,  The Capitol building alone has 20,000 employees, and just 535 of them are elected to their positions. In 1790, MA had 8 representatives (for 380K people) in the House. In 2022, MA has just one more representative (for almost 7M people).

Authoritarian rule in the USA will not be administered by the professional military.  The proxy war in Ukraine is being administered by the national security state and not the pentagon.
