This is a great distinction. Some of it is clearly a reaction (to something). A good example other than pitch/speed is the abundance of ad-libs (among other things) and @slugchrist is an artist who's done something different and even referred to this as maybe abstract expressionism of sorts. And maybe instead purely acting as an escape, it's seeking transcendence instead or in conjunction.

Really enjoyed this! Someone tell Amber more interviews with musicians, artists, you know. That'd be cool. Also getting bands or whatever to announce a tour or some crap would be good so then P4k, etc. would have to link you guys lol.

This conversation about Soundcloud rap is the most out of touch shit ive heard in a long time...its a platform, not a genre

obviously im gonna have to defend soundcloud a bit here but. I honestly think there are more shitty indie bands than shitty soundcloud rappers. And there's nothing wrong with it anyway. Most musicians aren't that good. it's a super unrewarding field that takes a lot of effort. We should really just be happy that being a musician is so popular right now.

i'm sorry to have to comment this here but maybe it was you who lost touch and need to meet other people or make better friends? it's always been acceptable to enjoy mundane stuff, and those feelings are usually personal and not a symptom of some crazy society. well that was me, a person from the internet.
