A bit dissapointing discussion. Too much obsession with individualities in history (like liberal BBC does). Pretty liberal reading of history. Material conditions produced Napoleon, even though he had agency as any individual - that individual agency was limited in a given context. War to spread French Revolution was possible due to conditions, and we would have totally different society now, if French didn't go to war in order to spread Liberal Revolution across the Europe. Otherwise, Revolution wouldn't have been saved.

Russian Revolution was successful without help of elites. It did achieve transformation that was imposed by workers. If question only about people overthrowing and transforming society without help of elites.

Dessalines was pretty good too, James said he may have even been a better military strategist than Louverture
