Telling Tales is a series of podcasts giving one of the Chapter 24 family, one of our remixers, or one of our headliners an opportunity to deliver to us a story in sound. These mixes are sure to separate the signal from the noise!

For the third edition Telling Tales, we are delighted to welcome the wonderful Soul Button, founder of the exciting Berlin-based label Steyoyoke.

Soul Button's talents as a pioneering producer are perhaps only eclipsed by his skills as a selector and a DJ, as anyone who has heard his incredible mix series Inner Symphony will attest.

Telling Tales 003 is no different: taking the listener on a journey from drama and torment to suspense, settlement and newfound resolve, Soul Button invites us to step into his world and live the story with him, every step of the way. 

A true author of stories in sound, Soul Button is the ideal choice to headline our label launch, Gather Round, at The Star of Kings in London on December 20th, alongside a cast of talented Chapter 24 artists.

For our first Gather Round, we are pleased to say that we will be donating all our profits from ticket sales to Single Homeless Project (SHP), a charity for homeless and vulnerable people in London.

Jonas Saalbach offers up his own take on ‘Implications’, laying the focus on elongated bass drones, sparse rhythms and whirring electronics to create a smooth and hypnotic interpretation.

In the second of Chapter 24's Editions compilations, the label has invited a select group of talented artists from across the globe to reimagine original tracks from its releases earlier this year.

The duty of closing out this second compilation falls to Anton Dhouran, a young emerging artist from Paris, who, by age 20, has already signed to various labels such as Diynamic and Manual Music. He doesn't fail to deliver: his Edition of Aspice by Sam Pauli & Reiver takes us to the skies, wondrous pads anchored by rolling 808 bass, percussion and guitar lines.

By convention, sweet is sweet, bitter is bitter, hot is hot, cold is cold, colour is colour; but in truth there are only atoms and the void. So it goes.

Our fourteenth chapter sees label co-founders Sam Pauli (@sampaulimusic) & Paul Nolan (@paul-nolan) continue their collaboration with Atoms. Witness the reaction that occurs when these two electrifying artists enter the same creative orbit. Joining them on this release are talents Miyagi (@miyagi) and Danny Oliveira (@dnyo), for a stellar body of material.

The nature of atoms lies far below our powers of observation. Since atoms cannot be seen, their movements, too, escape us. As atoms travel through the void, they swerve from their course. Were it not so, they would remain forever isolated, and never meet to form the complexity of the universe. 

Providing his own swerve on the title track is Hamburg's Miyagi (Katermukke / Einmusika / SOSO), whose Edition focuses on a powerful, bass-laden groove which transports us until the familiar harmony takes over once more.

There are only atoms and the void. So it goes. 

But hold a mirror up to the void and you will discover that it is by no means empty nothingness. It contains particles of light which flicker in and out of existence.

Beyond the atoms, there is hope...

Why do we tell stories? 

We breathe, we eat, we sleep. We seek connection. These are our basic human needs. 

But there is one more need we all share, and it centres on stories. All across the world, stories are being recounted everywhere, in every imaginable way, at any given time. For telling stories is at the very essence of what it is to be human. 

The universe of stories can be broken down into seven basic plots which underlie all stories ever told. Recognising these patterns is the gateway to unravelling the universal symbolic language from which all storytelling is spun.

With Rags To Riches, Chapter 24 returns with seven stories in sound collected from artists across the world to bring these themes to life.

The compilation begins with Oliver Schories, a titan of the scene who regularly bestrides labels such as Suara, Stil vor Talent and his own SOSO. ‘Eno’ is an arp-led driving track overlaid with a hooky cut up vocal that perfectly sets us on our way.

Darin Epsilon (Renaissance, Sudbeat, Hope) brandishes his own thunderbolts with ‘Jenova’, an effortless and deep cut of musical techno that sparkles with hints of summer.

JOBE (Connaisseur, Selador) is up next with ‘Aurora’, exemplifying his both timeless and forward-thinking approach to production. A killer sub line takes hold over cosmic atmospheres.

The cornucopia of treats continues with the addition of newcomer Roundhead, a highly talented 22 year old Italian producer who delivers the massive ‘Durante il Viaggio’. Analogue synths are coupled with outstanding organic elements.

Einmusika and Chapter 24 artist Christopher Ivor’s dreamy and emotional ‘Back Home’ retains the organic and instrumental features, coupling them with his signature grooves - before label regular KatrinKa adds her own wistful, evocative contribution with ‘Fragments’.

Finally, Danny Oliveira makes his return to Chapter 24 in combination with his partner George Gomes with his new act, Shades of Light. ‘Sierra’ is a widescreen and ambitious piece: deep, dirty and beautiful music to rule the cosmos.

And so, as the storyteller utters that age old, magical phrase "Once upon a time...", let yourself be carried away…

Chapter 24 is back with a fine new story in sound from Oliver Schories. The German producer serves up one standout original and then gets remixed in great style by Marc DePulse, Third Son and Atapy.

The Hamburg man is well known for his quality house and stripped back minimal sounds. He plays at some of the best clubs in Europe and has released on Parquet, Steyoyoke, Darkroom Dubs, his own label SOSO and many more. He impresses once again here with Artik, which is a broody cut with dark bass underpinning an arching groove. Subtle synth patterns flesh it out and spooky vocals really add an air of intrigue.

Marc DePulse then strips it back to make it a deep and dubby roller that really gets under your skin. The fast-rising Third Son comes good once more with eight minutes of deep and spine tingling tech complete with starry melodies and big hi hat ringlets. Lastly, Romanian Atapy finishes things off in style with another spacious, warm and rolling cut that is deep and delicious.

NHAR (My Favorite Robot, Correspondant) is a consummate storyteller, and he opens the book with the glistening space tech of 'Navigli'. This is quickly followed up by newcomer Dan Grassler, whose superb 'Going Back' with US vocalist KnowKontrol is powerfully brooding and promises great things for the Munich-based producer.

The momentum picks up further with the standout 'Over My Head', a dark and delicious cut from two returning Chapter 24 artists, Alex Zed and Billie Fountain.

The label welcomes Teho and Machino for their inaugural releases on the imprint. Frenchman Teho (Herzblut, Parquet) serves up a double helping of delight with the skilfully crafted 'Back To The Forest' and the tense tech house of 'Drunken Leads'. Meanwhile, Machino (Desert Hearts), one of a new wave of Tijuana-based producers, showcases his unique blend of potent techno and ambient influences on 'Perdidos'.

Finally, Melodule and Van Did bring the tales to a close with 'Téou 12', a dreamy, abstract piece that showcases wonky basslines, drifting pads and engaging sound design.

The final act unfolds. Chapter 24 serves up a powerful 13 track album that finds a wealth of originals from Masaya’s debut, Picking Up The Pieces, getting the Editions treatment by top artists including Ripperton, Petar Dundov, Patrice Baumel, Johannes Brecht and many more. They make for essential listening.

First out of the bag, Kurt Baggaley flips Walking Dad into a deep spine tingling number that will infuse and fill the dance floor with warmth and soul. Love over Entropy’s take on Haumea is deep but more driving, with slick synth modulations colouring the grooves, then Swiss master Ripperton builds lots of tension with his brooding techno remix of Flow of Tears.

As well as a starry and cosmic Edition from Nhar, a tense and edgy take from Neil Flynn and a melodically excellent variation from Croatian Petar Dundov, the album includes a slow and haunting rework from David Durango and a skittish, broken beat kicker from Patlac.

The final third of the collection hones in on simmering techno from Johannes Brecht, a loose house roller from VVerses and masterfully seductive and steamy tech house from Patrice Baumel. Closing things out in fitting style are a rumbling epic from Malbetrieb & THC, and Paul Nolan’s delicate take on Time Goes Fast.

These works all breathe plenty of new life into the still standout originals from the Swiss Chilean artist and are sure to do plenty of damage on the dancefloor this summer. The 24th Chapter is at last revealed in full.

Our twenty sixth Chapter presents a powerful pair. Artists Stevie R (OFF, Babiczstyle, Parquet, Inside Out) and Delfin (Motek) conjure studio magic in their collaboration on the Jalemba EP.

The EP opens with the title track, a wonderfully atmospheric cut that allies heavy percussive rhythms with hypnotic tribal chanting and vintage synth harmonies. It is accompanied by another original, Lepa Sela, a deeper, mysterious and engaging affair with liquid, found sound grooves. 

The remixes on the package befit this stunning pair of originals. 

First up, the in-demand Mathias Schober, boss of Lossless and man of a thousand disguises, contributes a couple of bombs in the form of his Rhythm Sequence and Rhythm Rework. The former grabs the headlines as a peak-time affair, whereas the latter offers a pleasing, chunky heads down groove.

The 28th Chapter sees Djuma Soundsystem team up with Westerby for our latest story in sound: the cosmic afro tech of ‘Disambigua’.

Now based in Copenhagen, Norwegian artist Djuma Soundsystem was catapulted into the public's consciousness over a decade ago with his club classic 'Les Djinns' on Get Physical Music. His organic, sample-heavy signature sound is the perfect combination with fellow Copenhagen artist Westerby’s rougher, analogue synths and techy edges.

‘Disambigua’, their much-anticipated follow up to smash hit ‘Koma Kobache’ (Get Physical), is a standout cut which is already turning heads on dancefloors across Europe with its dark groove and killer vocal hook.

Rising star Jonathan Kaspar (Objektivity, Pets Recordings) is first up on the Editions, where he takes things deep. Built around the interplay of synth lines in call and response, his rework is a pure bass monster.

Meanwhile, label regular KatrinKa marks her latest release on Chapter 24 with an Edition that places the emphasis on a trademark infectious groove, paired with a spiritual melodic motif; a perfect balance of darkness and light.

The package is rounded out by Aaaron. The in-demand producer has worked with everyone from Defected and Get Physical to (more recently) Connected and Yoshitoshi. He focuses on deep, powerful drums in a version heavy on tension.

With this latest Chapter there can be no doubt: four different flavours of ‘Disambigua’ which together add up to a clear and coherent whole.

Our 29th Chapter showcases the versatile talents of British artist JOBE with the heavy-hitting ‘Changes’ EP.

JOBE - previously responsible for one of Chapter 24’s biggest-selling tracks ‘Aurora’ - has released as widely as Akbal Music, Connaisseur and Steyoyoke. On this occasion, he serves up a balanced four-tracker combining cosmic, afro and techno influences.

‘Rafari’ is the opener. Marked by characterful sound design and swirling disembodied tribal voices creating a strong sense of disorientation, the track is held together by the hefty and assured drive of the main groove.

‘Anomaly’ showcases a more considered side to JOBE’s production and marks a shift of emphasis to harmony and composition, as layers of synths swell skywards before their satisfying return to earth.

Meanwhile, ‘Boma’ is a return to the tense, cosmic afro drive that is bound to set dancefloors aflame, before title track ‘Changes’ rounds things off with a powerful slab of progressive techno.

The 'Fire In The Disco Edit' reprises David Bowie's 1983 classic 'Let's Dance'. The duo have added a respectful cosmic dancefloor touch to the iconic party-starting original, which comprises Stevie Ray Vaughan's classic guitar solo.

Where did it all begin? First came the 'big bang', followed by a wondrous process of evolution, the so-called 'survival of the fittest'.

Having emerged and now being well established in his country of origin Greece, Thodoris Triantafillou follows a string of stellar releases on Connaisseur, Objektivity, Upon You and his powerful first outing ‘Avrio’ on Chapter 24, with the beautifully crafted ‘Species’ EP.

Fusing inspiration from the animal and astral realms with a potent combination of styles and influences, Triantafillou’s technical excellence and natural flair for selection shine through here.

Lead track ‘Hornbill’ is a classic banger brimming with straight up, driving energy. Melding the sounds of afro, techno and cosmic electro, it’s a workout for body and mind.

Meanwhile ‘Elephants’ packs a hefty punch, offering plenty of tension and a full percussive workout. Close on its tail and rounding things off, ‘Capybara’ is an uplifting and synth-led affair with plenty of production prowess.

Why do we tell stories?

We breathe, we eat, we sleep. We seek connection. These are our basic human needs.

But there is one more need we all share, and it centres on stories. All across the world, stories are being recounted everywhere, in every imaginable way, at any given time. For telling stories is at the very essence of what it is to be human.

The universe of stories can be broken down into seven basic plots which underlie all stories ever told. Recognising these patterns is the gateway to unravelling the universal symbolic language from which all storytelling is spun.

With ‘Tragedia', Chapter 24 returns with seven stories in sound collected from artists all across the world to bring these themes to life.

There is much to laud here. Swiss Stil vor Talent heavyweight Several Definitions kicks things off with the afro-house of ‘Roots’ while Stevie R collaborates with vocalist Djanan Turan and violinist Master Dani on the huge ‘Misirlu (Acid Version)’, ahead of his soon-to-be-released debut album. The impactful opening trio is completed by ‘Mubaraq’, which marks the debut of Argentinian artists Brigado Crew and Crisstiano on Chapter 24, following their contributions to the Diynamic and Jeudi labels.

Hungarian Sobek adds to the package with the tense and powerful ‘Croco In The Marsh’. Then ESP Institute, Futureboogie and Culprit artist and hero of We Love…Space Ian Blevins offers ‘Tuesday’s Child’, a driving and melodic cut that paves the way for the breaks and synth workout of label co-founder Sam Pauli’s ‘Sleeper’.

Finally, Los Angeles-based Rinzen ends this wide-ranging compilation with ’Temple’, a forward-thinking widescreen progressive techno piece with the perfect emotional lift to close things out.

They say that there are only seven basic plots but a thousand different stories.

And so, as the storyteller utters that age old, magical phrase "Once upon a time...", let yourself be carried away...

South African star Bruce Loko (Get Physical, Freerange) opens proceedings with the deep, melodious textures of Cyclone, whipping up the ethereal eye of the storm. Chapter 24 regular Kieran Apter is next, making good the tension with the impactful 6.10.21 Break. Such is the power of this track that it propels the listener into new sonic dimensions.

Kostakis (Get Physical, Katermukke) offers up Xerxes, which is equally big and conjures up the dusty, mysterious and impenetrable planes of the desert. Meanwhile, Acumen returns to the imprint in collaboration with Pontias. Shower for Hours is a pumping, techy number bound to get the dancefloor bouncing before opening out into a euphoric peak.

The compilation closes out with a high quality trio. Label favourite KatrinKa delivers the typically deep groove of ABAF. DJ Zombi (Beat Boutique) takes things further down into a dreamy and blissful space with Steph. The honour of closing out the final Seven Stories befalls Hope Recordings and Soundgarden legend Nick Warren and the talented Nicolas Rada, who revisit Anton Dhouran’s Valhalla Rising. Their Edition is fittingly deep, transportative and dramatic.

The 44th Chapter in this story sees the release of JOBE’s My Regrets, featuring the haunting vocals of Haptic and a big Edition from label bosses VVerses.

As ever with JOBE, the EP is a powerful combination of darkness, melody and heft.

Title track My Regrets is true to form, built on a chunky, driving groove that opens into an expansive and euphoric vocal-led peak in which Haptic takes the lead, giving a performance that is typically haunting and emotional. The Dub Edition, meanwhile, offers a useful counterpoint that smooths out the highs of the original.

Up next, the VVerses Lessons Learned Edition is a blissful combination of new wave-influenced broken beat, delayed basslines and dripping acid. Haptic’s vocal, transformed into an impersonal and heavily vocodered robotic presence, holds the track together as it culminates into choppy ravey chords that channel a Balearic feel.

Final track Luma is an ominous afro tech roller, big dusty drums encasing a central arp that ups the ante and is bound to make the dancefloor bounce. Interweaving synths relentlessly build the tension to a crescendo.

JOBE does it again with his My Regrets EP, right in time for the summer months. Here are stories in sound not to be missed on Chapter 24.

It is with great pleasure that we welcome Stevie R back for a mini album to be released in two parts, each part respectively titled Oropós and Ta Paidia Tis Geitonias.

Stevie has been busy honing his signature “Rebetronica” sound, dynamically fusing the Rebetiko folk music of his Greek homeland with cutting edge influences and analogue electronics. Here he teams up with Parisinos, with whom he is forming a partnership for his own imprint Inside Out Records. The results are impressive, building on his debut album Melt released on Chapter 24 last year.

Part I’s title track Oropós is a case in point; it is a feat in elegant, pared back simplicity. An insanely catchy vocal offsets an equally hooky bassline and percussion track. Somehow pulling off being dark and upbeat through something of a "haunted house” vibe, the piece is satisfyingly propelled forward by a menacing acid line.

Oropós then receives a massive rework courtesy of Crossbreed founder Kiwi. Also based in London, the artist showcases all his skills on an Edition that amps the power and the darkness of the original while adding a touch of reverie for very good measure.

Part I is satisfyingly rounded off by a second original, Melina (on Acid). Italo-drenched arpeggios glisten across a cosmic backdrop, atop an octave bass. The sounds of the night have never felt so good.

Three thrilling stories in sound. Watch out for follow up package Ta Paidia Tis Geitonias in the coming weeks.

Hot on the heels of the first part of his mini album release, Oropós, Stevie R reprises his partnership with Parisinos to offer us three more doses of forward thinking fire with this follow up, Ta Paidia Tis Geitonias.

Stevie R continues to push his beloved creation, the Rebetronica sound. The folk music of Greece is allied with indie, techno and dark disco influences.

The title track opens with a menacing break beat line and 808 kick bass, laced with a hypnotic SH 101 acid arp line and the disorientating sounds of Greek folk music, which are soon joined by the vocals of Anna Maria X. Both songcraft and the makings of a powerful club tool are on show here.

Next up, Saté Saté Saté layers hook upon hook. The bassline is an earworm in itself, while the top line elevates the track to anthemic proportions, evoking a 70s psychedelic feel that gives the piece the air of a classic. This one is bound to stand out on the dancefloor and at home.

Finally Túka marks a return to break beat and mangled analogue electronics. Disembodied robot vocals mesh with detuned modular arps. The sound of malfunction has never sounded so good!

So there we have it, three tracks to conclude a mini album full of surprise and new ideas that make a new contribution to the scene. Welcome to the musical cosmos of Stevie R.
