Deltarune Chapter 3 UST - OFFICIAL WAY (Vs. Radiola)

The long overdue "Stardome" track!
This plays in the final main area of Chapter 3, Tenna's giant Stardome.
The song's feel is heavily inspired by non-traditional jazz.

@kiwiquest had helped me a little with this track, mostly some melody stuff. xP

The tileset for this area was done by the amazing "tuna!"
I'm unsure if they have a SoundCloud page, so I'll have to check.

( After making their way through the MEMORIUM, they make their way to an old stage, the silence is suddenly broken by the sound of old, rusted gears, grinding, the starry curtains tug themselves open, a single spotlight flickers on, focused on Flowery, he faces forwards to the audience, all the chairs are empty. )

Flowery:
* HELLO, FRIENDS! IT'S BEEN SO, SO LONG... HASN'T IT?
* I'M SO HAPPY TO SEE YOU ALL AGAIN!

Susie:
* ... I don't think-

( Susie is cut off, an uproar of cheers and laughter booms from the audience around the stage, startling Susie and Ralsei. )
 
Susie:
* Wh... Kris, what's going on? Why did you take us here?

Flowery:
* WHY, TO PLAY OF COURSE! JUST LIKE OLD TIMES!
* AREN'T YOU EXCITED, KRIS?
* ... WHAT'S WITH THAT LOOK? DO...
* Do you not want to play anymore..?

( Kris takes a few steps backwards, slowly. )

Ralsei (Whispering):
* ( Kris, I told you we shouldn't have come here! )
* ( This is no place for a Lightner. Quickly, we must leave and get back to sealing the fountain-

Flowery:
* NO!!!

( They all pause, a desperate look on Flowery's face. )

* No... Please, don't go.
* Don't pack me away already. It's so dark in there.
* So, so dark...

( The three of them back away, a vine creeps out from the floorboards, snagging Kris's foot, preventing them from leaving. )

* Please, Kris...
* Can't we play just one more time? For old time's sake?

Susie:
* ... Hey man, we don't want any trouble. Just-

Ralsei:
* I hate to be blunt, sir. But we're going to need you to let go, and we will be on our way.

Flowery:
* ... Let go?

( Flowery laughs, as does the audience. )

* WHY, IF LETTING GO WAS SO EASY, YOU WOULDN'T BE HERE, WOULD YOU?

( The vine violently tugs Kris back to the center of the stage, lying on the floor, the children all cheer, he steps forward towards them. )

* PLEASE, IT'S JUST A LITTLE-

( Susie launches a Rude Buster at Flowery, knocking him back, petals falling off of his head. )

* ...

Susie:
* I'm sorry, but-

Flowery:
* So, those are the kinds of games you kids play nowadays... huh?
* Well, if that's how you like it...

( The sound of gears once more, lights above the audience flash on, revealing the amorphous, stirring shadows of dozens of children in the audience, giggling to themselves as the show begins. )

* LET'S PLAY MAKE-BELIEVE!!

Nerd Prix

Happy 2 years... to think that TECHNOCOLOR was like, kept alive despite being a mangled rotting corpse.

I got some help finishing this from @lexxiemow, but most of the song was my work. The art remains to be by the awesome Beruki.

I don't expect people to prefer this, and that's okay. But this song generally just feels a bit more fitting to the calmer and more deserty nature of the area, plus it includes more of the leitmotifs used elsewhere in the OST.

Call this the "death of pre-sneaking Vision Crew." I don't mind.

Thanks for the 2 years, I hope we can make 2 more.

The EP's surprising influences include techno and ambient, with drums somewhere between Afrobeat, jazz and Maracatu, and colder textured pads. A direction that may remind us of a sound design close to that of Alva Noto, a sound similar to that of Marco Shuttle, Joey Anderson or Dorisburg. The EP can't be summed up in a single musical style, and explores musical universes we've rarely heard together. The resulting unity is a mature, rhythmically complex sound, an insider's music that's easy to access because it's so danceable. The EP can be seen as part of a certain contemporary trance movement.

The Balafon in Humour noir (track 1) reveals Pablo Diarra's Malian influences. The rhythmic mix of intense Afrobeat, raw jazz and Afro-Brazilian influences contrasts with a harmonic line whose texture is more reminiscent of a Boards of Canada cinematic universe. The appearance of heady themes in the first two tracks bears the organic signature of FM synthesis. We sense the use of warm saturation that brings out certain harmonies, hoarse the sound that emerges close to what could be a muted trumpet or a kind of blown organ.

Track 2, After Trane, is an explicit tribute to John Coltrane. Here, the main lead evokes a sound somewhere between trumpet, flute and organ. Its polyrhythmic tangle with a second lead to the 5th can evoke a Balkan fanfare, a Celtic ritornello, West African chants, or even an Oriental dimension; there's something quite universal about this appearance; whose main characteristic is to produce a trance effect. The closing solo may evoke something of Joe Zawinul, and in some aspects takes the allure of a Coltranian pastiche in its articulation. You'll even recognize a brief citation of the Impressions theme, breaking through the mix and setting the track on fire at 5''33.

This EP feels both grounded and ethereal. The whole low-end spectrum stares us in a very dub-like direction, the snare, Rim, hats game is as swift as it is aerial, while the electro sound design elements take us, through experimental effect, into a vast, hushed soundscape.
