A sound art composition comprised mostly of field recordings taken with a zoom recorder and a shotgun microphone. This piece is meant to illustrate a transformative journey from one plane to another, both sonically and metaphorically.

Portal To Another Dimension

“Identity” is a medium mixed ensemble piece.
The word identity encompasses a lot of things. It holds our past, our present, and our future. It is sometimes a juxtaposition of who we feel that we are, with who we are expected or perceived to be. It is a battle for control, it is a place of power, it can create conflict, and it can build communities. This piece is very near to my heart. It’s an epic exploration and acquisition of my own identity, but it is a journey that is universal and relatable to all.

This is a live recording of the first time the piece was played live in concert.

Identity

Burbank is a sonic reenactment of human emotion before, during, and after a turbulent flight to Burbank, CA. This fixed media piece is comprised of altered and processed field recordings taken on the shuttle, in the parking lot, at security, and during the flight.

Burbank (Musique Concrete)

Ninos de la Frontera, is a piece about the tragic and traumatic experience that many children have endured before, during, and after their parents have made an attempt to cross the united states border.

This string quartet piece is dissonant and childlike, hauntingly drawing attention to the thousands of imprisoned children imprisoned on American soil.

The piece was first performed by the Eclipse Quartet at Mills College in Oakland, CA in 2019.

Ninos De La Frontera (String Quartet Composition)

As the country becomes painfully aware that the world as we know it has changed forever, CHARI turns toward the universe in search of more. The final destination is a world far, far, away. It is a place that many who know the way have traveled to under the guidance of great minds.
Traveling there is an arduous journey that must be completed in three parts. GOODSPEED vol 1 charts the first leg of this epic quest for what lies out there in the great beyond.
This is an instrumental project that ties in elements of experimental electronic, jazz, and hip hop. It was inspired by CHARI’s love for all things Sun-Ra, a love affair with their new bass guitar, and afro-futurist theory and practice.

NY Emmy Nominated  composer/vocalist/producer/mixed media artist Chari Glogovac-Smith is a rising creative multimedia force. Using their own mixture of traditional and experimental techniques, Chari is dynamically exploring and illustrating the human experience and condition through sound, composition, and film.
