I wrote this song emulating the playfulness of my dog unknowing I would never see him playing again. 

After this, I swore to myself to never take someone or something for granted.

The swells and happy melodies are his mirroring of my spontaneous running around and chasing him. Little did I know in the process of making this tune, he would die. 

In the absence of play and commitment to distilling a representation of freedom through MY music- I was interrupted and called to the vet, where he lay- prepared to be put down. No time for a goodbye or anymore sunset walks to prepare him and I to be separated forever. 
I still carry a deep regret for being so self absorbed in my passion to neglect the loyalty of such a profoundly good friend.

Through this song you will hear the evolution of Patches' voice from playfulness, and trust- to self assured returns of his friend (me) from college that never came until he had trouble breathing due to a tumor in his lung. 
Shortly after we moved him over to DFW, he looked into my eyes with betrayal and wouldn't play any longer. I attribute it to the pain in his hindlegs. Yet. I think it had to do with feeling rejected. I will never know. 
A part of me regrets finishing this song because it emphasizes the time I had left to spend with the boy.

You will hear toward the end of the song, the same root melody (Patches's voice) has evolved into acceptance. The reassurance that his master would return paid off, but now the roles are reversed. He is reassuring his master that they will see each other again. 

The elevated symphony towards the end is heaven calling and the playful, joyful and jovial echo is the eternal vibration of happiness his spirit began to harmonize with near the end. The spontaneousness continues in heaven, where the boy runs wild among the cosmos with his family waiting to play with me again.

The belonging in heaven that truly envelopes you in the last moments is warm like the sounds I created at 7 minutes. As you ascend, true freedom is ignited- illustrated by the sporadic echoing synth. This is the spirit of untethered adventure and true peace. Patches's voice was a wild one.

The reconciliation Patches and I shared was a mere few fleeting moments of his whimpering, my apologies and tears. Then his heart beat to a slow halt.

Then he was free forever.

The super sporadic echoey dance at the end is his spirit reminding me not to take life so seriously and remember to enjoy the moment. Life is too short to not be happy. Let the pain go and let's remember each other for the joy we shared. 

The meaning of life is to play. So go play. Make time to go play. 

We will all pass through this process and enter into the perpetual dance and play of heaven.  Even the low bass at the end, represents in the silence moments where we are alone, contemplating existence, the underlying fabric of reality contains the deep vibration of play.

This song is a dedication to all of you who have in some form, departed from an other.  The spiritual entanglement of love and loyalty continues in another dimension.
