To celebrate its 25th anniversary, Defected Records presents a series of extra special collaborative releases Together, integrating talent from the label’s storied past and the stars of its future, as a seminal record from the Defected catalogue, Johnny Corporate’s ‘Sunday Shoutin’’, receives a remix from London-born multi-instrumentalist and house maverick TSHA. The legacy of the definitive underground house track ‘Sunday Shoutin’’ is vastly documented, with its unmistakeable saxophone loop still heard at clubs approaching 25 years later. Having already received remixes from the likes of Sonny Fodera, Harry Romero and Dr Packer, TSHA now joins the pantheon of house greats by delivering a transformative remix, cementing her status as one of electronic music’s most exciting innovators. After earning numerous Breakthrough Act awards in her early career to gracing the covers of Mixmag and DJ Mag, including features in Billboard, NME, Crack, Billboard, The Observer, and more, TSHA’s immense, international touring schedule continues to attract global crowds who come in droves for her flourishing sound, as heard in her long-awaited debut album ‘Capricorn Sun’ on Ninja Tune in 2023. Her highly anticipated remix of ‘Sunday Shoutin’’, recently teased in her Defected In The House! Ibiza stream which relaunched the iconic series, continues to showcase the fresh and bold sound of TSHA. "im tired of hearing tracks that are obviously made to make the Beatport Top 10 charts! That market doesn’t interest me at all' Instead, I'm looking to release music that will still be around in 10 years time. Music aimed primarily at the danc efloor. Music with soul and depth and meaning. this is the reason i am launching Moxy Muzik." these are the the words Darius Syrossian used to answer a recent question in an interview on why he is launching his new label

And here we are, the first release on the new Moxy Muzik VINYL & DIGITAL label, an essential EP featuring one of his own originals and excellent remixes by Man Power, East End Dubz and Doc Martin. each EP released on the label comes with bespoke, hand-drawn artwork by Charlotte Archer.

The opening track on this first EP on Moxy Muzik is Dance of the Shaman, a turbo charged house cut with warm, rubbery bass made from the unorthodox method of using an Organ underlining slick and driving drums. The infectious groove is full of late night soul and chords stabs bring plenty of human emotions. 

Me Me Me label boss Man Power remixes it into an uplifting track with happy piano chords dancing over the drums. It’s a timeless effort that will get hands in the air and bring real joy to the floor. The legendary Doc Martin then strips things back and layers in some steamy female vocals to his remix and East End Dubz (Vinyl only) does his perfectly floor facing thing with dubbed out drums and slick hi hats keeping you dancing for days. Shaf Huse delivers his trademark peak time House sound that has been heavily supported from the likes of Martinz Brothers.

Future releases on Moxy Muzik will come from the likes of Phil Weeks, Tommy Vicari Jnr, Ray Mono, Christian Burkhardt, Ben Rau, Dense & Pika and of course Darius himself & will cover plenty of sound crossing both house & techno genre's but avoiding the generic obvious sounds that Darius feels is around too much at the moment. 

* THE MOXY MUZIK RESIDENCY & LABEL PARTIES

As the Label is launched, Darius is doing a series of parties across the uk & abroad to coincide with the Launch of the label, 
these are ALL going to be all night long or 6 hour sets, and to be ONLY held in CLUBS. as well as starting a Monthly residency at Joshua Brooks in Manchester.
the purpose of this is to take ‘CLUBBING BACK TO CLUBS’ and at the same time, play long extended sets

Darius explains “ i have always said that being a true dj is playing LONG sets, and having a residency, so i want to take this opportunity to show this is what I’m about right now, of course its great to play the huge festivals, & those are great, but there doesn’t seem to be balance anymore, most shows seems to be big branded events in big spaces & short sets, small clubs are closing all over and i want to keep this culture alive, when i was younger i used to go to a club called the orbit near Leeds, i saw Jeff Mills there, i saw Sven Vath there, playing this small 500 capacity venue and it was magical, this is what i want to bring back”

Having agreed to play a 6hr set at Joshua Brooks Manchester in June, the event sold out in under 24 hours off the back of Darius tweeting a ticket link, before any artwork or even an event page was created, such was demand their was another date added the following week which also sold out
The atmosphere was electric & this led Darius to plan on a residency in 2019

When Mike Dunn released his Classic Music Company debut ‘My House From All Angles’ last year, the album was met with critical acclaim, The Guardian writing: “God may have made him funky, but Mike Dunn has kept it going ever since.” Now, two stand out cuts from the LP are given the remix treatment, enlisting some of the label’s closest cohorts to re-work these two irresistible hip-house jams. Up first, Peppermint Jam boss Mousse T. opens the release, weaving in his signature bouncy melodies and funk-flavoured grooves into ‘If I Can’t Get Down’. Up next, Classic label-mate and house expert Oliver Dollar brings in a raw, edgier sound on his Boomty Mix of ‘DJ Beat That Shhh’, with an aptly bumping bassline. Classic label boss Luke Solomon provides his Clubland Remix of ‘If I Can’t Get Down’ next, enlisting funky guitar riffs and energetic percussion. Finally, Livin’ Proof and Barbershop Records founder Snips takes a stripped back approach to the same record, highlighting Mike’s unmistakable Windy City drawl with jazzier elements to give the mix a vintage feel. Uniting the worlds of rap and house, this remix package is a joyous celebration of what he does best, with this remix package securing its position as a house essential.
