I had the pleasure of playing a bass music set for Ideal Radio hosts Highblood & Ant Snow of the Ideal Collective based out of the Ventura county area. They host a bi-weekly stream on SubFM. every 1st and 3rd Friday of the month. It was a long time coming to curate and put forth a Halloween-themed set, and this seemed to be the platform to express it. Starting at 120bpm's and ascending to 136bpm's by the end, the tracks chosen in this one encompassed a wide range of soundscapes. I hope you enjoy!

Rebellion w/ Prehistoric Reptiles - Farm 2 Tables (DnB) S.1 (Vegetative)

Alongside special guests Psilovybe and Exolinguist for the inaugural Rebel Transmission livestream on the United By Bass Twitch channel, I kicked off our 3hr Liquid DnB block with a vinyl set. With about less than 10mins to pick out some tunes before start time, this was the end result. It wasn't perfect by any means. But not bad off the top of the dome and without touching my vinyl in some time. More recorded vinyl sets in the future for sure, since I never got a chance to put most of my collection in mixes back in the day.

As a DJ, I have been working on further expanding my musical journey by stepping back and taking a small break from broken beat music and digging into the 4x4 realm. It's been refreshing to say the least! The creative juices are flowing once again! I've got to shout out my muse and most favorite human on this planet and in this galaxy, Marshay Shaylitos, for the inspiration.

MAINFRAME v2: REBELLION - Carpe Noctem [20:20.20|02|2020]

"Echoes of Miyamoto Musashi" is Rebellion's first full-length mix of this year that was, in fact, a freestyle set that was performed for a live stream on July 10th, 2020 (via Twitch), for the fundraiser to help keep San Diego's Kava Lounge venue afloat thru these trying times during Covid-19. Kava Lounge has been the underground music hub for the city these past 16yrs. The SD electronic music scene came together to help raise over $14k within the span of a week, since announcing its original statement of shutting down, on July 8th.

Charles Rebellion has considered this his direction and interpretation of Jungle music aesthetic since 2015, when he first released his mix, "The Art of Chessboxing", for the Upgrade podcast mix series. Having been born grown up in Japan as an American, Rebellion grew up at a young age enjoying samurai TV shows. The story of Miyamoto Musashi has long fascinated his imagination and the way he views his life today. Ronin has always been his path. With duality, patience & understanding is always sought in all aspects of his life. Enjoy the story within the music. Immerse yourself into the very fabric of Musashi's echoes thru the frequencies and allow yourself to let the mind wander and create it's own tale within the beats & basslines.

Echoes of Miyamoto Musashi (DOKKODO vol.1)

An old buddy of mine kept a mix file that I gave him as his bday gift back in 2007. He recently sorted me with the file and we revisted memory lane together, for I completely forgot about this relic. I never kept a copy of this mix for myself. So to my surprise and amusement, we listened to it and judged the hell out of it over a couple of beers.
 
This was an all-vinyl set (and one of the last ones I ever recorded during that time period before I shifted over to Serato) that was done in one take. It's got it's flaws, and I'm completely ok with that. It was made in it's purest form: for the fun and love of the music, sharing amongst friends. Plus, it was a request from the bday rudebwoy. How could I not? I hope you enjoy!

Rebellion - One Day As A Lion [Hipstep Magazine Exclusive 4/20/2013]

I went into this set with the intentions of curating various vibes from a few genres that all shared space between the ranges of 160-170bpm's. This is yet another sound that I envision myself playing when out in open space, primarily out and around the southern Cali desert; under a starry sky. 

2020 has given me time to expand my mind at a fast rate and go in many directions all at once with music. It has allowed more elements to enter my musical arsenal; all while I keep myself true to what I gravitate naturally towards to, audibly. I hope you enjoy my funkydesertbass music. And I can't wait until the day I'm under the same moonlight as you all, enjoying the beats and feeling the bass. Free. And without a care in the world. Until then, I dream in virtual dust.

Charles Rebellion has been deeply embedded in the southern California rave scene since 1996 and has been crushing dance floors in both the Jungle DnB, and Bass music circles starting in 2003. He had his start pushing bass to the masses as an online radio show host (DnBTV.com) in 2006, while also playing events, outdoor festivals, and intimate desert gatherings both locally and nationwide. Charles has performed from Las Vegas to Philly, out in Bristol (UK) and Toronto (CAN). He has also held multiple DnB residencies in both San Diego and Los Angeles counties for well over the past decade while also continuing to stay eclectic with his deep arsenal of selections and bringing a different feel to every platform on which he performs. 

Rebellion loves to take the listeners on a journey through the music no matter what BPM range in the music. Balancing Leftfield sounds alongside familiar, high-energy-filled beats, he traverses through sub-genres and obscure grooves seamlessly within the bass music realm, bringing something fresh and rewarding to the dance floor every time.
